Everyday I read the Enquirer Journal and everyday it's the same thing. An article on a certain high school about how good they are and how they're going to win the conference. I don't think it's fair how they get all the popularity even when there are other teams who are just as good and probably better than them. Someone needs to say something about this.

Some newspapers don't even put forth much of an effort to cover high school baseball anymore. About 3 weeks ago, the Rocky Mount Telegram had their " Area Baseball Preview" in the Sunday paper. The whole article was about Nash Central. I know Nash Central is one of the favorites this year in the county, but a baseball preview should give a little print to all the high schools, not just one.

    Marvin Ridge Gazette

:torture:The Enquirer Journal should be called the Marvin Ridge Gazette. I read it in the hopes that on rare instances other schools may be mentioned but those days are few and far between. I have emailed Jerry Snow the sports editor but get no response. Last year when I finally saw a reporter at one of our games (against Marvin) I told him I didn't think they knew the location of our school. It is disappointing. If their staff is not able to get to all of the games it would be nice to feature a different team each week in order to get fair coverage to all. Or maybe all schools should change their colors to orange and blue. Yep I am bitter.

Funny, we were just having this conversation last night at our game. I like the reference to the Marvin Ridge Gazette as it is right on. Don't get me wrong, I like the coaches over there, I know and like a bunch of the players, but are they really the only team in Union County deserving of coverage for baseball? Lot's of players in UC moving on to the next level who play 3 times a week too. Ok, Cuthbertson gets some play for that reason, Weddington gets a mention no and then, Porter Ridge get an article for their pitchers 1 hit performance against Weddington, but Piedmont? Parkwood? others? The point here is that only MR gets consistent press. The others are just filler.

As we were talking last night we came to the conclusion that in order to get covered you had to do one of two things: 1) play Marvin Ridge 2) play at 4:30. Apparently the reporters don't like the tight deadlines of the night games.

Be interesting to see if they even have the ability to cover the CBC East Meck Spring Break Classic in which both Marvin and Weddington will be playing and if so how that coverage breaks out ratio wise.

Winston Salem Journal went to some/decent coverage(if you want to call it that) of the Forsyth County teams to basically no coverage. I do know that the Winston Salem Journal is about to start a new Preps Section, so maybe that will provide more incite to the Winston Salem area baseball!

The EJ is making no effort to get anything on the other schools. I understand budgets are tight, and they have limited staff, but they could at least make an attempt. I know several coaches that have tried to call their information in, but they either don't answer the phone, or say they've got all they need.

Sounds very similar to our Charlotte Observer - being all over AK, Providence and MC, unless they loose to say Butler in 14 innings, like last year - an then there is no mention of anything. Seems the coverage is quite one sided.

That is ironic CU because in North Mecklenburg we think that the Southern part of Mecklenburg gets all the press from the Charlotte Observer. There is some great baseball played in the entire area that doesnt get the coverage it deserves. To me a bigger problem is Football and Basketball ( HIGH SCHOOL ) still gets bigger press and their season is over. Hell, Girls Sports get more coverage than Baseball.I always read where its the budget, i guess during football and basketball they have a bigger budget. Football Friday Night, has great footage and interviews from all over the coverage area and i believe these same schools play baseball. Baseball has exploded nationally for this area and would love to see the numbers for players going on and playing at the next level in the BIG THREE SPORTS. I am thankful for the coverage we do get and maybe for the 2012 class and beyound, the coverage will only get better.

    UC coverage from Enquirer Journal

In the last 12 days, MR has gotten 4 feature stories about their program.
1 feature each for PR (great outing by Kwasnik), SV (smith coming back from injury), PW( win over W, and field being vandalized), and Cuthbertson (shut out over Pied) over the same time period.
MR has a great program. No disrespect to them, but gee wiz, how about a little something for the other players making great plays. I'm happy MR is doing great, but I'd like to know more about the other schools in the county.

If you want to get in the Union County paper, you've got to play MR or Piedmont.
