Thoughts on the draft so far...

Ryan Marion did get selected in the 8th round.

Lastings Milledge at one time was projected as the 1st pick--went 12th

Nick Markakis selected 7th overall from Young Harris was a huge surprise at that selection

Sean Rodriguez slipped a bit as the 90th pick

Robert Valides is my pick to watch at I believe #100...remember his name!

The biggest disappointment so far is Daniel Bard not being selected as of yet 10 rounds....something fishy is going on as Daniel was clearly a better prospect then over 1/2 already selected. Too many pro scouts slotted him 1st or 2nd round for this to happen...something smells.

I guess it doesn't really matter as Coach Fox is screaming all the way from Columbia, " Welcome Daniel and Andrew Miller to the Tar Heel staff "...watch out ACC, there's a new sheriff in town!

The draft is SO unpredictable. Last year, Jonathan Hovis, Chris Mason and B.J. Richmond were all predicted to be drafted. This year, it was reported Daniel Bard would be picked in the first five rounds, and I believe Stan Olsen reported he might even go in the first two rounds. I've just finished checking the first eleven rounds on the major league website, and didn't see Bard unless I overlooked him. Brandon Yarbrough (Richmond Senior) was the 155th overall pick (Cardinals), and I don't recall seeing his name listed recently as a possible draft pick.

You almost have to believe that if you don't play for either Baseball America, Team USA or a Perfect Game team that you will have a difficult time being drafted in the 1st round.

I wouldn't fret too much Larry...all this means is the ALL Stars riding the bench will now get some playing time...they will reload next year....and hopefully willl sign a Charlotte boy for their '05 recruit:D

Concerning Bard, I wish I could remember where I heard or read it, but his price was too high. Was considered unsignable. My big question is Landon Powell. What's going on there?

Landon is the only player in America who could sign any year he wanted to. Although he was initially projected high in the draft , he did not have the season to warrant a low selection. My guess is he will remain a Gamecock and get his degree.
