Last night as I was unable to sleep this thought crossed my mind.

What if the top four or five travel teams took their best four players and combined them into one team. Just for an "example", the four teams from NC that went to ASA A Nationals, took their top four players, and then we took four more from other teams for a total of 20. We get Coach Dobbins as head coach, Shena Hollar as one assistant, maybe Michelle Carrigan as the other assistant. Remember this is a dream and is not meant to leave out any qualified coach or player!

Could this team compete and win consistently on a national stage -GOLD?

Danny and I have talked about this before as we sat at tournaments and of course did not have to worry about losing a call on our cell phone!

    Let's have some feedback!

Maybe using the best 20 from all the teams in the State Games would be a way to go!

there are others who can answer this question much better than I but I dont think the state games route is the way to go. There are just too many lazy coaches and AD's who dont get that info in as it should. Thanks (AGAIN) to Pop for the great job he does but that is not the farm system to use for an idea like this. Those that coach the TB teams that these players would come from are the ones to sit down and have the tryouts or simply send out the invites. They know the skills/athleticism/attitudes/grades/parents, all the attributes to be considered...

.... excellent idea if it could be about the girls and not about turf. Props to Abbey for being one who is willing to give up his turf to perhaps make this happen.

We have had something similar to this type of team in NC and it did win a national championship a couple of years ago. I do believe an even stronger team could be put together, but I would hope in wouldn't interfere with the travel teams the girls were already playing on.

    Just discussion

Just discussion here, not trying to break any teams up or take players, nothing like that, just opening up a discussion.

Maybe this team would play enough Gold to qualify for Nationals but the players would play Showcase with their regular team. Problem! Once they play Gold they could not play A or B ASA ball! I am almost sure, they could play Showcase ball tournaments with an A team. As long as it is not a qualifier or state event, Rick is that correct?

How you going to cover all positions?

    THis is just an example.

    Teams best players:

Team A -- pitcher, catcher, ss, cf
    Team B -- pitcher, 3rd, ss, 1st
    Team C -- catcher, 2nd, ss, lf
    Team D -- pitcher, ss, 3rd, 1st.

    My Opinion...

For what it is worth, My opinion is that HS ball has EXTREMELY TOO MUCH politics involved, to even consider doing this with HS teams!
TB on the other hand, I think it could most certainly work. I also feel that the team could not only win, but hold their own againest ANY challenger! As far as the coach of this team, I feel that it should be someone that has an extreme amount of knowledge about the game and has a reputation for being fair, as well as being involved in coaching for the love of the game and the players! Not to mention someone who knows how to relay that knowledge to the players, someone that the players say they relate to, as well as learn from! It should be a majority rules type of thing! Not just a couple of people that think that person is right for the job! Have tryouts for the coaching staff, as well as, the players!
Something like: Players from all the TB teams involved, will vote on the coaching staff! Coaches from the TB teams involved, will vote on the players!
That is just my opinion on the matter!
I nominate AbbeyFan, as the leader of the organization of this team and I think he should have a board of directors that oversee the running and desicions of this team! Where do we sign up?

    Yep

One of problems for sure but most of the top players could play some other position if given the opportunity. Another problem could arise as certain players do not want to play anywhere else or their parents do not want them to play any where else, THUS DREAM TEAM!

Lets not sell the State Games short after only one year. This event is on its way up. Scheduling conflicts last summer did cause some of our NC talent to be forced to choose between TB and the Games. The scheduling conflicts will be worked out in time. The impact of lazy coaches will diminish in the future because of the FANS, PRESS, and COLLEGE SCOUTS that the Games will attract. In coming years, the event will be too big for a player to not be able to participate simply because some HS coach failed to bring the information to his/her players.

    You know

I simply was asking people's opinion on if we did take the best players from NC and put them together, could we compete! I mentioned a couple possible ways od determining how to do that and then opened it up. Man, it is really getting where U can't make a post without ruffling feathers when really all i wanted was to talk about overall NC talent and ability to compete.

Guys put this thread as it appears we have hit nerves and I never thought it would head that direction! Wow, there are many good travel teams and many good players, why does it have to go personal when not one single name of players or teams were mentioned by me.
