My 12 cents. Or 12 Euros.

I think that the reason the body automatically lines up is that with clinched fists or curled fingers the muscles in the forearms are set tighter which in turn causes the biseps to set tighter, followed by the shoulders and upper back. Lower back has to set it set itself up to support that. Followed by the hips. All the way down.

Little things like running with thumbs up set the rest of the body in motion to support the core body muscle groups.

Running with clinched fists causes the body to set itself up to run from a more side to side motion. Thus energy is wasted in supporting this side to side action rather than using that energy to move foward or back. Its very subtle but its there.

Running with the thumbs up and fingers spread, force the body to align itself to efficiently use energy in getting the body to move in a forward or a backward motion.

Ive seen a lot of players who run from side to side. Not efficiently using energy and power.

Im for sure no expert but I think this is what is going.

Anyone with a better understanding of this or really know what is going please chime in.

A while back I used to teach pitchers that "tucking their glove" prior to delivery was the smooth way to pitch. Turns out that if you really look at it the better delivery is for the chest to chase the glove which in turn there is no other place for the glove to go but to tuck.
