Now I know why I stick with girls fastpitch softball. Whoever it is that ran this tournament needs know that I have NEVER paid $20 to watch an ECU game. What in the world are y'all thinking charging that much for ONE game. Yes, I did pay that because I did drive all the way from Apex to watch one game. But thank God the person I went to watch will be playing AT ECU so I won't have to pay that amount again. What ever happened to single game prices???? It just burns me up but I'm the idiot who did pay it!!!

    Lake Monsters go 1-3.
Day 1 South Canes 15 Lake Monsters 2 Had a tough time with strike zone all morning. Don't know if pitchers were trying to be to "perfect" because of who we were playing and couldn't get it zoned in or what, but nevertheless, too many walks. Jauss(ECU) was sharp for the Canes until the end, when we were able to get a couple of runs across. 2 hits for us. Ryan Allen(JF Webb '10) and Seth Lumpkins(JF Webb '09). For Canes: Edgerton(UNCW), Brown (HR)(NC State), and Noteboom(SSS '09) 2 hits each. Haley, Huffman(UNC), and Dupree(W. Johnston '10) with 1 hit each. Jauss threw complete game.

Worth/Dugout 9 Lake Monsters 3 Better pitching effort this time around as game was very close until 6th inning. (Mitchell Frazier(JF Webb '09) 5 IP 6 hits, 6 BB's 5 K's). Their starter was very effective. Forget his name as we didn't get a lineup card from them, but was told he was from Watauga HS, and signed with App. St. Threw sidearm with lots of run. Better effort from plate as well. Tyler Barnette(Hickory '10), Josh Lovick (Kinston '10), Dylan Newton(JF Webb '10), Trey Talley(JF Webb '10), Jake Young(Bunn '10), and Ryan Allen all with hits. They had a young catcher from West Wilkes who homered. Sorry, no name. Their pitcher went distance.

Day 2 Virginia Cavaliers 9 Lake Monsters 4. 5-3 game going into last inning, when Cavs. pushed 4 across. Ryan Pearce(Scotland Co. '09) pitched great in relief keeping game close throughout middle innings. Very close to being a big upset. Tyler Barnette had 3 hits, with Kevin Norton(Scotland Co. '09), Seth Lumpkins (2B),& Taylor Stanley(Clinton '10) adding hits. For them Bentley (ETSU), King (UVA), & Bagbey, had 2 hits each. McQuaiq also added a homer for the Cavs.

Lake Monsters 11 East Coast Grays 5 Scored 9 runs in 1st on 9 hits. Went 11 batters before 1st out was recorded. Taylor Stanley picked up win allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, walking 2, and striking out 2. Change-up was very effective as it got sharper as game went along. 15 hits lead by Stanley and Josh Lovick(2B) with 3 each. Tyler Barnette and Dylan Newton had 2, with Kevin Norton(2B), Ryan Allen(2B), Seth Lumpkins(2B),Trey Talley and Matt Laxton(Middle Creek '10) with 1 each. Lovick put on an absolute show at SS as well, making several "highlight reel" plays.

All in all, pitching could have been better for weekend as a whole. Hitting came around as well. 3 errors total in 4 games and 2 of those came on throws getting by 3rd base allowing runners to move up. Will Bullock (South Granville '10)pitched well all weekend in relief.

    Final 4

Well make that the final 3! The Wilson Bulldogs will play the Canes North at 11:30 at ECU. The winner will play the Canes South for the Championship. The Hammond Chiefs were supposed to round out the final 4 and play the Canes South but they dropped out to attend another event. I would think they will have a tough time getting back into this event in the future. Just my guess.

I spent Friday Saturday and Sunday watching some good baseball. The highlight for me was sitting with Coach R. Vincent at Guy Smith and watching the Wilson Bulldogs play the Up State Mavericks. What a pleasure it is to sit and talk baseball with this man. A close second would be the time I had Saturday night watching the South Charlotte Panthers and the Hammond Chiefs play at ECU. Coach Vincent , Diesel Rampant , SoutherNo1 and some more local guys it was a blast. Later we took in some chicken wings at a local sports bar.

I wont be able to make the trip again on Monday to see the semis or the championship game. But it sure was alot of fun this weekend in Greenville. By the way GrayBen made an appearance at Pitt CC on Saturday.

    Way to go Dawgs

Bulldogs have only 1 bad inning in the tournament and lose the championship to the South Canes 7-3......they also hit into a bases loaded no out triple play. Great run by the new kids on the block.

Coach27- is there a history of the Wilson Bulldogs? Who is on this team? They seem to come out of nowhere.

    Braves

Stretchy would be the guy to ask that question to. I had no idea who they were. Stretchy asked Jeff to play and he did. I wish I knew all the names maybe Stretchy can post the roster for us and where they go to HS. I do know there were boys from some private schools in the Wilson area , Wilson Fike , Wilson Hunt , Nash Central etc. I dont want to leave anyone out so Stretchy could you do the honors? Great group of players and wonderful parents.

    How let the Dawgs out.....

The Wilson Bulldogs are coached by Ty Bissett a friend of mine that loves the game like I do and wants to give boys a chance they might not otherwise get. He came along right after I disbanded the Stretchlon Stars so I have adopted his team as a team I am very much willing to help in any way I can. They got there big break into the showcase arena when a team dropped out of the ODU event a couple weeks ago and they gladly filled that spot at 9 pm the night before. They showed real well and were then invited to the ECU event.

    Todays lineup:

    CF Zach Moore
    SS Michael McLawhorn
    LF Xavier Macklin
C Jeff May (Telco Credit Union player of the game today with a 3 run homer in the first inning against the North Canes in the semi game)
    3B Alex Howard
    1B Tripp Sauls
    2B Sam Kirk
    3B Mitchell Wheeler
    RF Zach Bissett
P William Prince (winning pitcher in game against North Canes)
    P Justin Nygard
    P Jeremy Efird
    P Jesse Mercer
    DH Russel Ward
    INF Gabe Brown

Note: Bobby Hannon and the Deters twins from Greenville Rose played with them today to help with some relief pitching.
