Two to watch from the east

DH Conley: This teams drops from 4A to 3A. Two solid pitchers and excellent all-round talent.

Clayton: This team moves up to 4A. One excellent pitcher.

    2A

East lincoln drops from 3A to 2A . They also got a couple of new travel ball students. They should be a much improved team.
    N.Lincoln 2-time state final four team.:woot: Returns 8 of 9 starters including
two All state kids. They move from 1A to 2A. Should compete well. North
plays a tough out of conf. schedule, several 3A & 4A games will get them
    ready to compete in 2006

    Thoughts

I think Freedom will be in the fight again. They have some dedicated kids and a good young coach as a leader.

    Western 2A

Pisgah should be at the top of the 2A schools in the west. Pisgah has won the conference the past two years and will be loosing only 1 starting senior from last year. With an "All Western North Carolina" pitcher and an "All State" short stop the team is on solid ground. They will have several talented sophmores and for the first time in several years could have some real speed on the bases.

Pisgah should hope they do not get a team from the Mountain Valley Conference this season. The lower seeds from the MVC have made it a habit to dominate the Western Highlands recently. Good Luck to all as the season approaches.

Cherryville returns 6 starters and Abby Walls returns to the mound for her Senior season. 3 of the starters play travel ball. If they will let several very talented freshman compete and play varsity then this team could be a pretty good team. The freshman swing great bats and are very solid fielders. One is a pitcher who would complement the staff greatly. She pitched 18U for the Lady O's as a 13/14 year old last summer. Several of the other talented freshman play travel ball for the Denver Dazzle and had exceptional summers.

Good idea to include SPHS. Have a few awesome freshmen coming in. Lost only one senior.

    NW4A

No one biting on the pre-season predictions here so i'll start with my thoughts about the North- Western Conference.

AC Reynolds- Can they replace Burton( will pitching carry them?)
Alexander Central (Pierce has been hurt but should be in good form by conference)
Freedom- 10 returning players( 4 all-conference, 1 all-state) Can they repeat the magic of last year- could challenge for top spot? (1 senior)
Watauga- Coaching and Riley can carry this team
South Caldwell- New coach- young team- could be pretty good
McDowell- New coach again this year- upset some teams last year at the end.
East Burke- Still young, but a lot better

Not really picks in how they will finish- just thoughts on each team.
