    Early signing

November 15 ends early signing period. If D-1 schools have not been talking with a player by now, not likely they are pursuing that player, in fact most D-1 schools have all 2010's committed and many are recruiting 2011 and 2012, at least watching them and getting them to attend camps.
All that said there will be some that did not get the player they wanted ad are still seeking that diamond in the rough.
This fall I took on three 2010's to help them get recruited as they had not had contact.

    Early Signing period

The school will send the prospective student the NLI along with a detailed packet that explains the terms of support being offered ($$). A prospect may receive NLI's from several schools although most kids have verbally committed by the signing date and will only receive the packets from the chosen school. The student-athlete and the legal guardian (if the student is not 18 years of age) then must sign and return the NLI during the signing period (will usually fax a copy of the signed NLI on the first day of signing period to comfort the college coach and then mail the official copy soon thereafter). This year that's Nov 11-18. So, as of today, no softball players graduating this spring have signed anywhere. None of the "commitments" you've read about here or elsewhere have any legal standing at this point nor does the NCAA recognize 'verbals' in any way. The next signing period does not begin until April 14, 2010. Therefore, if signing does not occur in the early signing window no binding offer can be sealed again until the April date. Also note that once the NLI is signed child is committed to that school for her FR year and can only play elswhere (unless she chooses to go DIII) if she is released. Only players receiving athletic support ($$) actually sign the NLI. I've seen pictures of so-called signing ceremonies for walk-ons. I guess this is nice but it's not real. Here's a link to the dates and lots of other good info about the NLI:

....just saying not picking at details but the NLI has to be signed by the parent if the kid is under 21. I'm looking right at it. And that signature means zero.
A kid can't sign a contract to do anything in NC if they are under age unless a Judge deems the contract to be in the best interest of the kid.
Also, a parent cannot sign away their kids rights without a Judge signing as well.

Thats a fact and NC law.
