I am personally excited to be involved in this tournament. As an East Meck alum and a coach at Marvin Ridge I am definitely looking forward to some of the matchups. The slate of games are fantastic and the level of competition absolutely rivals that of the Jack Sink tourney. I haven't been on that field since I was a coach at Weddington 4 years ago in the SW4A tourney but I have seen pics that Braves has posted and the field still looks awesome! Everyone should definitely head out to the field even if they double dip for a 2pm game at East then head out to Myers Park for a later game @ the Jack Sink. Going to be an awesome week for baseball in Charlotte!

This is going to be a great tournament with a lot of fun. Not only some outstanding matchups, but played, in my opinion, at the best high school field in the state.

I don't know how they do this, but East Meck also has the best concession hot dogs, too.

I imagine Ed Bryant is smiling today getting ready for this tournament. If you happen to notice the lights twinkling at some point, that's Ed letting you know that he has arrived.

Youth League Recognition East Meck Spring Showcase

To promote High School Baseball to the next generation of players the East Mecklenburg Showcase has invited youth baseball leagues (11 in total) that feed into each of the participating high schools. All youth players and coaches will be given FREE admission throughout the tournament. We'll have base running type events for the kids between games. Finally, each participating league will be specially recognized during a "Prime Time" game involving their high school. The attached flyer lists the times each league will be recognized.

We've invited youth leagues to regular season games before and its great for everyone involved. The youth players and their parents get to see what lies in store for them if they continue to play baseball. The High School players get to be celebrities for a day. Finally, the atmosphere is incredible. Its almost like a baseball carnival. We know that a lot of kids will be out of town for Spring Break, but a whole lot more will be right here. I can't think of a better way for a young baseball player to spend a day.

Unfortunately, "the powers that be" over at MARA have decided not to participate, so they won't be officially recognized as originally scheduled. As a result, Butler will be without an official cheering section of youth players. We're still offering free admission to MARA players and coaches, provided they wear their league jerseys.

    MARA

This has to be a case of being misinformed.....I cannot imagine that an organization as established as MARA would turn their nose up to such a great opportunity for their kids and parents to be involved in this tournament. Personally, I grew up at MARA and played their for about a decade and would have loved to do something like this. Its actually a no-brainer! What have they got to lose?

Perhaps they have a good reason. I don't know, but here's what they will miss. Some outstanding teams, great players (many from their association), great coaching, one of the best facilities in the state, and arguably the best concessions served in the perfect environment.

For kids being able to participate in this event is a classy act by the East Meck supporters and all of the people volunteering their time to make this a wonderful event.

    MARA

    To: WCLion

MARA is unaware of any invitation to this event. I checked with both our Board President and our Baseball Chairman. We were invited to UNCC and to see the Knights, but have no invitation to this.

We would love to provide the information to our members, so feel free to send the flyer to [email protected] and we will distribute.

In the future, please refer to the MARA website for key contacts. They change every year. You can find it at www.marasports.org

We would love to come support Butler.

For those who don't know MARA or is judgmental of our program, please take time to find out more about us. We provide youth sports for both boys and girls from age 4 to 18. We field teams in Softball, Baseball, Lacrosse, Football, Cheer, Basketball and have over 1000 youth in our programs.

We also partner with Butler, Providence, Catholic, Grace Academy, Carmel/Covenant, Matthews Rugby and others to utilize our facilities.

We are a volunteer organization made up of individuals who serve on the Board. We provide a comprehensive program grounded in teaching fundamentals and providing fair, balanced and competitive play.

MARA is a great place to bring your families. Many lifelong friendships are started at MARA.

    MARA

    MARAsports,
I thought that I was in contact with your commissioner and that's why I was so dumfounded when he indicated yesterday that MARA was no longer interested. I've sent you a Private Message with the details. At any rate, we'd be thrilled to have MARA kids there to support Butler. Please respond to my PM to let me know where to send the flyers and information. We look forward to having you participate. It should be a great event for everyone.
