East Rutherford won both games today to win the 2A state championship. Tyler Smith was the game winning pitcher in the first game of the day beating North Lenoir 3-1. Cullen Park won game 2 by the score of 8-1. Don't have any stats but maybe Rocket will.
Congratulations to North Lenoir for a great season and a good championship series. Congratulations to ER for taking the title back to Forest City and Rutherford county!!!
    Go Big Red!!!

    GAME 1
    ER 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 ...0 3 1
    NL 2 0 1 0 0 1 X....4 3 1

    HITTING:
    NL
    -
    Stihl Sowers 1-3, HR , 2 RBI
    Andrew Manning 1-2, RBI
    Bryce Grady 1-2, RBI

    ER
    Zeke Blanton 1-3
    Cullen Park 1-3
    Daniel Goodnight 1-3

    PITCHING:
    NL - Stihl Sowers 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 8 K, 2 BB.....WIN (7-0)
    ER - Ryan Leach 6 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 6 K, 3 BB....LOSS (9-2)

Sowers was brilliant. Did not know his changeup was that good. He also had the big blow on offense, hitting a 2-run HR after Sutton walked to lead off the game. Leach pitched well after that. NL had only 3 hits, but all were good for RBI's. That was the difference.

    GAME 2

    NL 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 ...1 4 2
    ER 2 0 0 0 0 1 X....3 10 1

    HITTING:
    ER -
    Zeke Blanton 2-4, 2B (19), RBI
    Tyler Smith 2-3
    Michael Milam 1-3, 2B, R

    NL -
    Stihl Sowers 1-3, 2B
    Brandon Sutton 1-4, R
    Bryce Grady 1-2, 2B, RBI

    PITCHING
    ER Tyler Smith 6.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 7 K, 2 BB...WIN (9-0)
    NL Brandon Sutton 6 IP, 10 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 7 K, 0 BB...LOSS (10-1)

The Cavs got on the board early as Blanton led off with a hit and scored on Baldwin's liner to left plus E-9, moving him to 3B. Meltons sac fly gave the Cavs the only 2 runs they would need. T. Smith kept the Hawks off balance all game.

    GAME 3
    NL 1 0 0 0 0 0 0....1 3 3
    ER 1 6 1 0 0 0 X....8 10 0

    HITTING
    ER -
    Michael Milam 3-3, 2B, 2 R
    Zeke Blanton 2-3, R, RBI
    Seth Baldwin 2-3, HR (13), 3 RBI

    NL -
    Brandon Sutton 1-3, R

    PITCHING
    ER Cullen Park 6.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 8 K, 1 BB....WIN (6-0)
    NL John Alphin 1.1 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 K, 1 BB....LOSS

RECORDS : East Rutherford 31-2 (2nd most wins in NCHSAA history to 2004 ER team)
    North Lenoir 28-5

The Cavaliers pitching depth proved the difference as Park never allowed the Hawks to mount a serious threat. Baldwin's 3-run HR in the 2nd was big, as it gave ER a 7-1 lead and took away thoughts of Sowers returning to pitch in a close game. Great run by the North Lenoir Hawks. Bobby Reynolds Cavaliers now have won 4 rings in 6 years. Blanton was MVP. Melton, Smith and Blanton played as freshman on last title team (2004).

Congrats on the Spartans 4A title also. I guess both of these titles were expected by a lot of people, but that didn't make it any easier to attain.
