My heart aches for you and your kids. I do hope there is someway to keep the school "alive" during the rebuild.

Kids work so hard to represent their schools, and I know ER's kids are no different.

God speed to all of you.

solarte, I live in another part of Guilford County and I can tell you that it has affected all of us this week. I can only imagine what it is like for them and will be next week when they return to classes.

Tonight I'm pulling for their football team in the quest to make the playoffs.

    Go Wildcats!

    tragic story to learn from

As much of a tragedy as this was lets also take time to realize that had money been spent to retrofit the school with sprinklers like it should have been and had the FDC and standpipes not been blocked by cars parked in the fire lane (see people, it does matter if you park in the fire lane, even if only for a minute) then a lot more of damage could have been avoided. In a study by NIOSH, more than %98 of buildings invovled in fires with PROPERLY working sprinklers can hold fires in check or extinguish them completely. Please do not view this posting as a person sayin " oh well sucks for them" or "its thier own fault". I am very upset for the students and would love to help if i could. but im looking at the bigger picture here. a picture that shows that either the school system will learn from history or will be doomed to repeat it. i am also posting this hoping that a member of another school with the absence of sprinklers will learn from this and potentially avoid this tragedy themselves.
