THE BASEBALL ACADEMY (Hudson, NC) currently has openings to fill for the Fall Semester of its "Elite Hitting School". This program is very intense and for the most dedicated hitters only. It is all about quality and development, taking good hitters and making them great hitters. Applicants will be interviewed and evaluated, and then selected based on best fit for the program. To apply, send a brief player bio and contact information to [email protected]

Could you provide more information on this.

    - Who is teaching this (Qualifications etc…)?
    - What is the Cost?
    - What is the duration?
    - How many days during the week?

    Thanks

I'll let others give the details, but David Coffey is an institution as a hitting expert in the Caldwell County area, as well as other areas. All one has to look is the success of the South Caldwell HS and the area All Star teams to know that he has played a major role in the development of those kids.

The best thing I can say is if I lived in that area, my son would be taking lessons from Coach Coffey tomorrow. Now I know this didn't answer your question, but I hope it is an endorsement to the quality of teaching one will receive.

I'll second that. My son received instruction from David several years ago. There is no more dedicated instructor. He would be known far and wide if he were able to do this full time.

    Questions?

Thanks for all the emails, I've gotten more questions emailed than player bios... If you want to apply, email me a player bio, if you have questions post them here. I'll be glad to answer questions you may have right here on the board, so hopefully not having to keep answering some of the same questions over and over.

    Thanks again,

    David - TBA

David- you might want to address the questions on here that are the most asked to save you from having to answer the same question with different members.

    Questions / Answers

A common one is credentials / qualifications, etc. Where did you play ball? Did you play professionally? What kind of facility?

First let me make something clear to those who don't know me, I have always been very passionate about the game, as a player and a coach at the different levels. For me that has carried over to intructing and teaching. One things is for sure, to have the patience and dedication it takes to be a good teacher/instructor, you must have a passion for doing it.

I played high school ball at South Caldwell, college ball at Northwood University, and a little semi-pro ball.

I've been coaching for 15 years, and instructing for 10. I have studied the three facets of hitting: Visual, Mental, and Mechanical, for years, and I have been fortunate enough to have the ability to share that and pass it on.

I have a nice indoor training facility in Hudson. In it I have one full length batting tunnel (It is very spacious and isolated from the rest of the facility, and provides a good teaching enviroment), a classroom (Where certain instruction is done and video tape is analyzed), and a couple of rooms where training equipment is used to develop the core muscles of the swing. I set up my facility for the sole purpose of instruction and training, I don't sell memberships to teams or have it open to the public, it is exclusively for training and development.

Gotta run for now, but I will pick out some more questions and answer them later.

    More Q&A

    What do you charge?

First, let me say that I have structured lessons and packages many different ways, and for many reasons private lessons continue to be the format of choice.

I sell lessons (Private - 30 minutes) in blocks of 10 for $300 ($30 per lesson).

    More Q & A

    How often are the lessons?

The lessons do not expire, however I recommend students come twice a week during their first 10 lessons to assist in building a solid foundation (some things have to be de-learned and then re-learned). After that, it is entirely up to the student and parents.

    How do you schedule lessons?

I place that responsibility on the studend and parents. They must contact me (preferably a week in advance) with their request, however I try to remain flexible.

We don't live very close, can we do an hour long lesson when we come?

You would be surprised at how many students have traveled up to 2 hours one way for instruction on a weekly basis, and yes I am flexible with that. I do however, require that you let me know each time you schedule a lesson if you request a full hour.
