    More Q & A...

Does my kid really need individual instruction?

That's a decision you as a parent will ultimately have to make. I can however provide a little insight. The #1 reason for a young player not reaching their full potential is a lack of proper instruction. Parents spend thousands of dollars on new bats (looking to give little Johnny an edge), and while we should all be advocates of proper equipment, we must realize "It aint the arrow that makes the difference, it's the indian".

    More Q & A...

Why don't you charge more for your lessons?

Believe it or not this has been asked. I'm sure the parent was not actually wanting to spend more money, it was a matter of questioning the quality of instruction compared to other intruction available. There are other academies out there charging considerably more for their instruction, so one might think that their instruction is better. I can't honestly say that it is or it isn't, I haven't observed the instruction at most of the other places. I am sure however that there are other good instructors out there. Price normally has a lot to do with the expenses it takes to run a facility. I keep my overhead to a minimum, and I pass that along. The Baseball Academy is not a job for me, I have one of those already and that is where my income is generated. Working with hitters is something I enjoy, I guess it's more of a hobby, therefore I can get by with charging less.

    Questions?

Why does hitting instruction cost so much?

Of course, this question did not come from the same parent that asked "Why don't you charge more".

Let's see, I have to pay rent, equipment, utilities, etc. So, I put together a budget of time and expenses, and came up with a rate that I could operate on. Keep in mind that I don't rent my facility out to teams & organizations, it is not open to the public, and I don't do birthday parties. It is strictly for instruction, training, and development. Let me also say that while it does cost real money to run a facility like The Baseball Academy, I have never turned a kid away because mom & dad could not afford the instruction. I have had many students over the years who have never paid for instruction. I have since developed a fundraising/scholarship program to assist in certain situations.

    Gotta run for now,

Please don't get into a slug fest on how big your buildings are and how many players you have worked with because we all know that you guys are good with teaching hitting and we don't need all the overhead to charge kide anything. (pass it down on your own time it's much more rewarding.) I have kids showing up waiting for me after coaching games to work with them. Kids whom play elsewhere.

    Easy Freddy....

.....Wndmllr was just giving facts. And BTW, the size of his facility has nothing to do with the price/charge for lessons. Also, I think that "success" acheived by kids who have come through any "coach/building", are VERY relevant. If GrandSlam can market a large facility, and numerous coaches involved, and show that kids who have come through that facility have succeeded, all the while, paying the same 1/2 hour rate, .....whats wrong with that?
I'm sure that no slander was intended toward ANY other coach/facility.
I certainly didn't read his post in that way.

The Best Hitting Instructors In The World

300' by 300' outdoor facility known as the backyard. Instructor will have patience and retrieve all hit balls over and over again. He will offer constant encouragement to the hitter often times praising him for just making contact. He will instill a desire and love of the game by spending time with him each and every time he wants to hit. Instructors will include mom as well who will make sure there are plenty of cold drinks available when he gets thirsty. Instructor will constantly learn as much as he can to help the student and will seek out advice from others. Instructor will be positive and make sure the student is having fun so the student will continue to want to hit when he gets older. When the instructor reaches the point he can no longer teach to the level of the student he will leave it up to his current coach and find him other instructors that will "have patience , understanding , knowledge and know how to pass this on to the student."

But in the end the most important instructor will be sitting in the stands watching the student perform. And hopefully keeping his mouth shut. :4:

I don't think Freddy really cares that much because he walks the walk. As a major league scout for many years, he donates much of his 'free" time giving free lessons and forming showcase teams and doesn't charge a dime to play for him. He attends other showcase events as a scout and still offers free instructions/advice to any player while at the events. His point is to give back--it's much more rewarding. However, I know both TBA and WndMillr do a lot of that, too. Both of those guys are outstanding in giving back to their sport.

I'm sorry TBA that your thread was changed. I'm going to close it and allow people that are interested to contact you.
