Tonight was CBA's last regular season home game and it was Senior Night. The 6 seniors on the CBA team all started in the game against Eastern Wayne. The seniors including 3 underclassman played a great game against the major in-county rivals. After 5 innings of a scoreless ball game CBA broke the streak. In the 6th inning the Golden Falcons scored 3 runs and held the Warriors into the 7th to win the game. The final score:

    CBA- 3
    E. Wayne- 0

CBA is now 19-0 with one more regular season game left.

lol... i knew u would ask. But since senior night was last night and the other short stop is a senior, I didn't get to play. Hopefully we will complete the mission as desired. We know that Washington is going to be pumped up and ready to play b/c Thursday night is their senior night, and they're starting pitcher is a senior that can put the ball in there. So we'll just have to be pumped up and ready to play too.

I have to say that this is one of the worst things I can report. CBA lost their very first game this year. This loss kept us from having an undefeated conference champs title. Although we are still conference champs it is kind of sad. In a way I feel like the loss is going to help us to do better in the playoffs b/c it shows us what we have to do to win, and now we won't going in there as cocky b/c we were undefeated.

The game was played very well by both teams. Washington scored the only run of the game in the 1st or 2nd inning on an error. CBA put many base runners on in scoring position but when it came down to it the big hits didn't come through. Both pitchers did an excellent job and defense wise both teams were set. So in 7 innings the final score was Washington 1, CBA 0.

CFBall: to answer the question you always ask... I didn't bat tonight. For some reason my coach decided to put a player in who hasn't played any at short stop to "experiment" as he said. Not the thing I wanted to hear in the biggest conference game of the year. But I took my role as a base runner for the pitcher and I feel as if I did my job to the best of my abilities so that's all I can ask for. :(

    Manteo finishes perfect conference season

All-stater Katie Miller shuts out Currituck

    Redskins unbeaten in league

BY OWEN A. HASSELL, SENTINEL STAFF

MANTEO (May 13) - With the emotions and well-wishes of seven Manteo softball seniors, and some help by Currituck County, it was a happy home finale Thursday.

The Redskins softball team got a triple by Sarah Joy Daniels, then Amanda Stanley hit one to right field, but the fly out was dropped, allowing Daniels to score and Manteo to win 1-0 on Senior Night against the Knights.

It was a fitting ending to a perfect Northeastern Coastal Conference record for the Redskins (20-2, 11-0 NCC), clinching the title by beating the rival that bested Manteo twice in 2003 to become conference champions.

Next up is the first round of the state 3A playoffs against either South Central or Washington out of the Eastern Carolina Conference Thursday. Both have been state-ranked at one point in the year.

But for Thursday night, the fun and celebration was for the talented seven for Manteo: Stanley, Daniels, Katie Miller, Lauren Craddock, Lauren France, Heather Bridges and Candace Cozart.

"You knew that they would both come out and it would be knock down, drag out for seven innings," MHS coach Walt Davis said. "And it's just one play, one pitch, one hit, one fielding error, and you knew it was going to come down to it and that's what's fun about it and that's what makes it exciting."

With the pitching of Katie Miller, one run was enough. The senior ended her last regular season home game on a one-hitter.

Currituck got one runner close to scoring position, Keely Shafer, after MHS shortstop, Caitlin Andrus, had her second fielding error of the contest on a botched toss to first baseman Lauren Craddock.

But Craddock recovered, got the ball and Andrus also recovered, tagging out Shafer at second on the 3-6 play.

Craddock had to do some tough work at first with throws coming in wildly.

Davis noted nerves were a part of the problem.

"You can't say enough about the fielding of Lauren Craddock tonight," Davis said. "She made some plays over there that could've turned the whole ballgame around.

"We got to do something better to make it better for her, but she's been playing hurt for three weeks now, but she doesn't complain and she goes out there and gets it done and that's what you want this time of the year."

Manteo got its run in the fourth when Daniels reached third and Stanley's fly out was missed by Shafer to score Daniels.

It was the Knights' lone error, the Redskins' one run, and it made the difference.

"All I can hope is that it carries on in the playoffs," Davis said. "That's the key, pitching and defense and trying to pick a hit or two here and there is what's going to win for you against good teams."

Miller plans to attend George Washington University and has received academic and athletic scholarships from that institution valued $96,000."

Man, I've definitely been slacking this year... lol. It's just a little bit different this year for me, b/c I'm actually going to school, playing ball, and working. I didn't have to work last year. But I will do the best I can in reporting some scores.

    Wilson Fike: 8-0 win

    Greene Central: 3-0 win
    North Lenoir: 5-7 loss :lalala:

    Southern Wayne: 9-0 win

Kinston: win, but can't remember the score

    West Craven: win

West Carteret: win, I was in Europe so I'm not too sure of the score

    North Lenoir: 1-5 loss

    South Central: 2-3 loss

Eastern Wayne: 10-0 win (starting to get back in the game)

    Washington: 4-0 win

    North Johnston: 4-0 win
