    NW4A Girls 2008 ALL-Conference
    The girls team consisted of McDowell's-Kurie Washington-POY, Ebonique Hamilton, Kelsey Greene, Freedom's Ali Ford and Chelsea Connelly, A.C. Reynolds' Carlee Taylor and Whitney Brinkley, East Burke's Elizabeth Ross, South Caldwell's Kayle Gross and Watauga's Emily Pineda.
    Honorable mention choices were South Caldwell's Mattison Hall and Vonteana Williams, Alexander Central's Bionca Johnson, East Burke's Olivia Childers and Freedom's Laura Chapman.

    There was a feature in the April 6th edition of the Asheville Citizen-Times that named Kurie Washington their WNC Girls Player of the Year but I did not see any All-WNC teams online.


    Here are the All-Observer, All-Piedmont and All-State teams according to the Charlotte Observer...


    All Observer First Team:


    Christal Caldwell, West Charlotte, 5-10, Jr., G: Averaged 20 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists. Led Lions to first regional championship and first state championship appearance in school history.

    Jessica Capers, Gastonia Forestview, 6-1, Sr., C: Signed with West Virginia, Capers averaged 18.6 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.3 steals. Scored 72 points in two playoff games against previously unbeaten Hickory and once-beaten Asheville Roberson.

    Whitny Edwards, Providence Day, 5-11, Sr., G: Led Chargers to fourth straight NCISAA 3A state title. Virginia signee averaged 15 points, five rebounds, five assists.

    Keyrra Gillespie, Statesville, 5-6, Jr., G: Averaged 15.5 points, 8.2 assists, 6.4 rebounds and 4.8 steals for 28-3 state quarterfinalist. Offers from Clemson, Florida and Charlotte. Led her team to first 3A regionals appearance in 11 years.

    Candace Wood, Victory Christian, 6-0, Sr., G: UNC signee was named Gatorade NC player of the year after leading her team to NCISAA 2A state title. Averaged 19 points, 8 rebounds, four assists. Named Ms. Basketball in N.C.
