There were players in the Northwestern 4A Conference this season with gaudier stats than those of McDowell’s Matt Evans.

But none of those players meant more to his team.

Evans, the Titans’ indomitable senior leader, was voted the NW4A Conference’s Player of The Year by the league’s coaches. The 6-1 senior is the first McDowell player to win the award since Jenis Grindstaff in the 1996-97 season. Titans senior Bryan Greene, who became a two-time All-NW4A choice, was the only other McDowell player named to the team.

"The coaches recognized it takes other things besides scoring to be a player," said McDowell head coach Lloyd Church. "Almost always, the guy who wins Player of The Year is a guy who scores a lot of points. To my knowledge, he (Matt) is the first one who has been recognized because of his overall game and his work ethic.

For the first time in history, the MVP award actually goes to the person "Most Valuable". Everybody knows Evans and his importance to that team. The coaches could had easily given the award to one of the Reynolds players because they won the conference, but they didn't.

Also in the article, Alexander Central Coach gets Coach of the Year. This year's 8-4 record, best ever by a team from Taylorsville. So that's a no brainer.

I agree with you on the boys coach of the year. However I disagree with the girls choice. coach snead is a good coach but look at the returning talent he had to work with. This compared to the very young team that coach silver had to work with. If I'm voting I give the coy to silver with the south caldwell coach a close second. and that's my :twocents: worth
