Has he said what he wants to do during retirement? EZ is very young to imagine him dunking a worm at a lake all day.

Last night on TV, the local sportscasting team had a telephone interview with Coach Smith. I didn't listen to all of it, but I did hear Coach Smith say that he just felt like it was a great time for a change of leadership at Concord. He referenced the change in our country's leadership.....said he had done a lot of thinking.....and felt like now was a good time to step away. He indicated that the program might benefit from some new ideas, new energy, and new direction.

He said he would remain very close to the Concord football program, and wished nothing but wonderful things for it. As ususal, he carried himself as he should have and seemed very "at peace" with his decision.

By his tone and demeanor, I would be a bit surprised if he was coaching somewhere next season. But, of course, what do I really know about Coach Smith's tones and demeanors!!!

A lot of the "old school" coaches are moving out and making way for the next generation of coaches. They will be sorely missed......

EZ did say that he would not coach high school football again, but left open the possibility of one day coaching in the college ranks if the right job came along.
