    Just wanted to let you know that the Piedmont Storm Pitcher got hit in the face today Brie Davenport. She is in surgery as I speak please pray for a speedy recovery. Please ladies wear your face mask 1st, 3rd and pitcher.

    I hope she is not going to have long-term issues. I see a lot of players using the mask. I wish more would use it. Using the mask doesn't seem to be affecting anyone's game negatively. I remember all the fuss about the batting helmet cages; now it's not even a second thought.

    Keep us up-to-date on her progress.

    I talked with Storm coach Steve Harkey early today at Winthrop. He said she was coming to the field and was doing fine. We were busy playing so I didn't see them again.

    I understand this young lady had braces. What kind of damage was done to her teeth?

    Luckily no damage to her teeth. I think a bracket may be loose and that's it. Thank goodness she had her mouthguard in. The damage was done by the braces to the inside of her mouth. Surgery was to stitch up muscle and skin to the inside jaw. She is a tough kid and will be back out there soon. We can't wait to see her back on the field. (and her pretty face back to normal!)
