    Pitching vs throwing

Ok Heres my 14 cents. I think thats what Im up to. But who cares.

    IMO:

Pitching is the science behind what you do on the mound.

    Throwing is the effort.

Recall that the defensive game is played between the catcher and the pitcher. (In olden days he was the thrower.)

SO the pitcher and catcher are supposed to play a game of catch. Forget the batter. He doesn't have a clue. He really doesn't know what is next! He can only guess. The pitcher and catcher are really the only ones that know. They are because they throw and catch the ball. No matter what anyone else thinks is going to be thrown. No coach or player knows. Only the pitcher and catcher know.

    2 more cents

Good advice...I might add, the young pitcher should focus more on the process rather than the results...other than fielding their position, so much is out of their control once the ball leaves their hand.

    On icing a pitchers arm...

The funniest comment I ever heard on that was a pitcher was asked why he ices his arm and his response was, "It's the only chance I get to look cool in the dugout"... hehehee

Fact Most arm injuries occur because of poor mechanics. Fix that and you will have a good foundation to work on. Do not fix it and you can do all the workouts, stretching. lifting, icing, etc...you want, but by the end of the day your next pitch may be the one where you have to call Dr Andrews.

Some of those things are important, but they are just ingredients for a good cake. You must have a working oven to bake it.
