With her shutout victory over Iona today ECU's Faith Sutton (North Pitt HS) became only the third NC high school product to post a win in a D1 NCAA regional game. The other two in the club are NCSU's Shaina Irvin and UNC's Crystal Cox (Hopewell) and (Central Cabarrus). Surprising (to me) is the fact that JMU's Meredith Felts (JH Rose) appears to be the only other NC high school alumnus to start a D1 NCAA regional game (a 4-3 loss to ut in 2009). Obviously, there have been a number of exceptional pitchers who have not gotten the opportunity. Elon's Lauren Taylor (Harnett Central) could potentially join the group this weekend.$

*Yes, I know it's next level stuff.

    Childers certainly deserves it

She's having a wonderful career. The tough thing for Upstate and all the teams in the A-Sun is that it is a huge league with virtually no chance of receiving a bid except the automatic. Much easier for Winthrop (for example) to make it from the much smaller Big South. Upstate was 11-9 in the league this season. Ironically, Mo's chances of making the tournament are likely dependent on the success of Upstate's #2 pitcher.
