Softball here has worked just fine here in the spring for all these years and will continue to do so. This has just been an exceptionally bad winter and it gets us stirred up. I personally like it much better in the spring than the fall. The weather is getting better and the games are going on. I've seen several games already. Even made the drive up to Lenoir today and watched Hibriten play. Almost perfect softball weather there today, their field was in good shape, and a big crowd on hand. Most of the time around here you just have to get through the first couple weeks and it's smooth sailing. It may rainout a game but it can do that in the fall also

another issue is that if you play softball in the fall, you're competing with the football crowd which might take away from friday attendance.

trading volleyball and softball would also have to change baseball too, as they are tied together in raleigh's mind. i dont thing it will ever happen, as baseball has always been a spring sport.

The biggest problem with playing in the fall is that it would be during hunting season. I'd miss every game. LOL

North Carolina passed a law prohibiting school from starting before Aug 25 so we have other issues, but encroaching on travel ball in August is not one of them.

How many softball players are in education programs that use football as their "credit" for sports medicine as trainers? If so, they usually dont play a fall sport so that they can attend football practices and games.

It probably wouldn't take away from Friday attendance, it probably would eliminate Fridays as a softball day altogether. Most softball players will want to attend the football game. That's a huge social event for high school students that softball players shouldn't be denied. Having only four weekdays per week for softball would essentially reduce the season's available practice time by one third. That's not good!

    School Calendar

NC did pass a law when school could start, but as with so many other things in life the same rules don't apply to everybody. There are school systems that are grandfathered and there are individual public schools who are exempt too.

Softball should be played in the spring! Changing it to the fall would be unamerican.
