Final Charlotte Observer 2012 Sweet 16 poll

    Criteria?

    Probably anybody who made up a list would have a different list. As one might expect. What were your top three criteria?
    Also I believe that your # 1 team is not 4A. However I believe they could beat any team on the list (on any given day). Or they could lose to any team on the list (on any given day).

    The state needs a power ranking system for all sports. Baseball suffers the worst when it comes to the one and done get up.
    Here are 8 local team i would have put into a final 8 World Series Pool Play Bracket based on how they finished the regular season..
    1. Providence 25-3
    2. Ardrey Kell 28-6
    3. South Point 22-3
    4. South Stanly 30-4
    5. Northwest Cabarrus 22-5
    6. Cuthbertson 26-5
    7. Weddington 27-6
    8. South Caldwell 21-3

    Not sure how the power ranking would stack but would be fun to watch.

    Weddington is a very deserving #1, considering they are the only local state champ and they beat Providence during the regular season.

    Where, though, is Marvin Ridge ? They finished something like 22-5 or so and beat Weddington 3 times. I realize they were upset in the first round of the playoffs but not ranked at all ?

    I have seen a lot of baseball in my time.

    Marvin Ridge is a great team deserving of being ranked in the top eight. Yes the slipped in the playoffs but that's baseball. Lookout for them next year.

    I agree that Weddington deserves its recognition and State Title. They survived the gauntlet and won. They played as a TEAM. Other teams have well recognized "superstars" but you still have to play as a team and not live off of a stud pitcher. Weddington has Alex Bostic but they had to play and win other games with the rest of their staff. Different players stepped up to achieve their goal.

    I believe Weddington also beat Providence, Ardrey Kell, and State Champ Charlotte Christain this season. They also beat Hough in a preseason scrimmage. The boys fought hard and deserve the honor.

    Everybody wants their team to be the best. Even in the pros some of the teams with the best, most high powered offenses don't win the World series.

    Enjoy the game. It teaches you about life. There's always next season. Remember it's a game. There are men and women sacrificing their lives so that we can play the game.
