Once again we have gotten way off track here...no one has said you can't get a college scholarship or get drafted if you play American Legion versus Showcase....

This thread is still alive and well

with alot of knowledgeable posters whose opinions I have come to respect over the years...I'd appreciate those opinions on this related subject..Junior student plays 4A football on an accomplished team that demands summer workouts, limiting the amount of time available for summer baseball to the high school affiliated team, playing other local high school teams. Seems to be equally talented in both football and baseball, and absolutely loves both. Question: IF the talent is there, and he has a standout junior and senior 4A baseball season, will that be enough to be seen, providing the coach gets the word out? Thank you for your considered responses.

    Definitely!

If that is as you said the Coach in HS does his part in promoting him! Baseball is "safer" is all I can say IT is gonna be a tough decision but if he is REALLY good in both he could probably polay both at somewhere less than DI...

If the kid can play, he will absolutely get the opportunity. College coaches are smart enough to understand the dual-sport situation. And they just might consider being a good football player a feather in the kid's cap.

What is he looking to do....football, baseball or both? If he wants both, look for schools that will give him a chance to do both....Daniel Cooke an excellent athlete from Independence comes to mind that played both football and baseball.

Daniel is doing very well in both sports at Gardner - Webb....go for both if that's what he wants to do...sounds like this kid is a very talented athlete.

    TBR comes thru again

That's a load off my mind. Thank you for the opinions, they are appreciated, and confirm what I've been told by others. I've no problem with showcase ball, Legion or AAU, as a matter of fact, I wish we had the time to compete. My son played AAU 10-14, but as a high school student athlete, there's a limit to your time and we have to draw the line somewhere. Our high school coach has done a great job in my estimation, having around 7 players from last years squad playing in college, and already having 3 D1 commits from the 07 class. Now my son just has to get it done on the field, but that's the fun part! Dbacks20...he would love to do both, just have to see if the talent is there...read the Daniel Cooke info on the Webbs website, must be a heck of an athlete.

RocketRide- good luck in your son's future endeavors. What a talented young man he must be. Football will in no way impact him negatively in his baseball future. In fact, most coaches like a two sport player. You can not underestimate an athlete and what they bring to the table. To be able to explore two college sports avenues is never a bad thing.

..again, good luck and keep us posted. I'm looking forward to following your son's career

    Thank you RocketRide and Braves-
I have enjoyed reading this thread, as I have a sophmore this year who also loves both sports. I see the decision of Legion vs. Showcase in our future. I also know that having Madison at South may help get my son noticed, if not during HS then maybe Legion this year.
There are as many opinions as to when to start concentrating on one sport as there are opinions on the Legion vs. Showcase. I love reading everyone's opinions. It definitely helps those of us parents who are just beginning this journey.
