    Cary baseball was rained out.

Cary softball played (and won 11-1).

The home plates are about 50 yards apart. Weird, but Cary's baseball field does lie much lower than the softball field.

This game was played in temps hovering in the upper 30's with sustained winds of around 15 mph. Good win for these young Blue Devils who lost tons of senior leadership off last years squad. Time for some new blood anyway. GOOD JOB BOYS!

    Parkland @ Mt.Tabor

    Mt. Tabor: 3
    Parkland: 2

It was a cold one out there today. With the wind-chill and all that good weather stuff it was 27 degrees when the first pitch was thrown. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 4th when Stephen Andrews (So.) started a 3-run inning for Mt. Tabor with a triple down the rightfield line. Parkland's 2 runs came on a 2 RBI single for Chris "Bubba" Donathan (Sr.) in the 5th. It was a good game to watch but it was definitley one of the coldest that will be on the schedule this year.

    WP - Drew Baldwin
    LP - Cory Snyder
    S - Michael Velten

North Meck versus South Meck .....

    And the winner is .......

The AD at South Meck :thud: who foolishly cancelled the umpires, assuming the game wouldn't be played. Then they informed the fans/teams that the umps would be there in 20 minutes..... wrong again.

The starting pitchers for both teams warmed up about 4 times before the game actually started. Meanwhile the temperature continued to fall. :1pyth:

When the finally got the game started, quite a few people in the stands had started to "drift" towards the somewhat warmer press box. When it reached the overflowing capacity and people were spilling out the windows, people started to leave early.

The scouts and college coaches that came to the game left early too. They made it thru some of the game, but couldn't hang. One admitted to me that he couldn't feel his toes anymore. Impact showed up and left before the end of the game for the first time in my memory.

So, at 9:15, we are walking in the door from a 4:30 game ....... I want to congratulate the AD at South Meck for a job well done.

    O yeah, the score .... SM 10, NM 6

    Geez it was cold....

Wow...that really sucks. It probably would have been a better game if it were warmer and the under different circumstances. Who were the starting pitchers, and if you wouldn't mind, do you have any stats?

    East Rutherford 2 Crest 1

East Rutherford traveled down the road to face the 3A Crest Chargers today in absolutely miserable conditions. A sustained wind blew straight in the batters face the whole game, so advantage to the pitchers. East scored first as Brett Walker squeezed in Blake Bostic, who had doubled, to give ER a 1-0 lead. Then in the 5th, Blake Wood's ground ball to 2B resulted in an error, scoring Tyler Smith for a 2-0 ER lead. Crest SO. Dusty Quattlebaum tripled in the seventh and scored on a single to cut the lead to 2-1, but East starter Blake Bostic stranded a Charger at 2B, getting a groundout to end the game.
Bostic was brilliant in the cold, striking out 10 walking 1 while scattering 6 hits. Bridges threw 5 and Greene 2 for Crest. Kyle Campfield had 2 hits for the Cavs.

    WP - Bostic (1-0)
    LP - Bridges (0-1)

    East Rutherford 1-0
    Crest Chargers 0-1

Now we know what it is like to play baseball in Alaska!

Only stat I know is that the ball felt like a cue-ball.

Jonathan Ratledge was stroking the bat very well for South Meck. Matt Andress and Ryan Morris looked very good for South Meck. Matt Layman started for South, going 3 innings. He retired everyone in order the first 2 innings but had a bit of rough going in the 3rd.

Tom Porter started for North Meck. He was throwing very hard. Gunned at 90-91, but was having difficulty getting the slick ball down.

Ryan Morris pitched 2nd for South Meck, followed by David Rubenstein. Morris shut down North when he came in and did very well.

Zack Rosenbaum pitched 2nd for North, followed by Damian Manzetti. Both threw hard, but, like Porter, struggled at times with the zone.

Alan Parks (NM) went yard. Cavasinni (NM) scored from 2nd base on a passed ball/wild pitch. Both defenses looked a bit ragged. The ball was blown away from the OF a few times. Once they had camped under it, the wind just caught it and blew it out of reach. South had a couple less errors than North.

The game just looked ragged and no body (particularly the plate ump) looked like he wanted to be there.
