    Myers Park 4, Independence 4 (10 innings)

It was cold, but I don't think the guys even noticed. The fans sure did, though. I don't think anyone in the stands was disappointed when the game was called after 10.

The game was a pitchers' duel for the most part. Aces Robbie Bray and Jeremy Mathis got the opening game starts. Mathis went 4 innings and gave up 1 unearned run on three hits; Bray took a three-hit shutout into the 7th.

Independence went up 3-0 in the sixth on a 2-run double by catcher Daniel Cooke and seemed to be cruising. But Myers Park scrambled for 4 runs in the top of the seventh. Aaron Bray relieved Robbie in the middle of the inning and went the rest of the way for the Patriots. Independence got one back in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game. Neither team could push a run across despite numerous base runners in the three extra frames. Indy failed on a suicide squeeze in the eighth; Myers Park left two on in the ninth.

For the Mustangs, relievers Jordan Cudney, Matt Henney and Ryan Rockecharlie all looked good, each pitching two innings in relief. Third baseman David Castevens had quite a day, going 4-5 with a double and making some really good plays on defense, too. Shortstop Scott Matthews had three hits.

Myers Park hosts Vance tomorrow and will travel to Hopewell on Friday. The three games in three days will really test the Mustang pitching staff.

Still not a lot of games going on yet ... I expect the action will pick up as the week progresses.

    E. Meck 7

The Wonders won this one with 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th. After Jay Hosack hit a 3-run, game tying home run (his second of the game), Eddie Boger (who reached on a walk) scored from second when a passed ball advanced him to third and the throw to third sailed into left field, all with no outs.

Brian Little threw 5 innings for the Wonders, and looked very good. Garrett Sherrill shook off some rust with 2 innings in relief, giving up one run.

The Wonders swung the bats very well. Hosack and Query both had 3 hits each to lead the way. Hosack had 5 RBI, I think.

The Wonders had some serious problems catching the ball in the field. The wind was a factor for sure, but pop flies and routine fly balls can't keep dropping.

    E. Meck played a solid game, they didn't do anything to hurt themselves until the last inning when the one bad throw cost them.

    EAST RUTHERFORD 6 MCDOWELL 5

4A McDowell visited East Rutherford today. Robbie Pruett's 2-rbi double gave ER an early 3-0 lead, but 3 Cav errors in the top of the 2nd allowed McDowell to tie the game. Zeke Blanton's RBI double put East back up 4-3, but the Titans answered with two in the fifth to go up 5-4. In the bottom of the fifth, Pruett again doubled in a run, tying the game, and with two outs Tyler Smith singled home Pruett to put the Cavs up 6-5. Kenneth Cooper came and pitched 2 scoreless innings for the save in relief of winning starter Kyle Campfield. A tall right-hander, # 13 Tyler Staton, threw 4 innings for McDowell plus had 2 RBI's, and a LH # 4 L. Dixon threw the last two.

East Rutherford now 2-0 and will play RS Central Friday.

I see Wil is ready for Clemson right now ... I'm sure the rest of the conference are very happy for him ... provided he leaves for college tomorrow .... :D

Seriously, Wil and company are going to be a force this season.
