I know it's early, but have you had any surprises?

My surprise team is Independence. They have 3 quality starting pitchers and have a team of hitters that are very aggressive at the plate. I like how Coach Coltrane has his team playing....watch out for the Patriots.

I like what Coach Demming is doing at Myers Park. He is playing a lot of young guys to see who can rise to the occasion and who should start when the conference games begin. Coach Demming understands that the pre-conference games are a time to prepare your team and develop and improve certain areas as well as individual players.

    Agreed!

Myers Park will be fine......... Independence I believe has been rejuvenated perhaps? Couple of teams seem to be struggling up on the northwest side YET they will be fine as well..IT IS EARLY and will be interesting to seee how things continue to pan out! I LIKE Providence and South in the SW4A however but you realllllllly can never tell BASEBALL like life is a "game of inches" and often times "alot" of luck....... :toilet:

isn't that the truth. One little thing ( like an ex-GF) can destroy a team's chemistry

Don't forget "senioritis". We seem to be experiencing that with a key player right now.

South Caldwell is a pleasant surprise to me, going 3-0 the first week. They are a young team, routinely playing 4 freshman and 2 sophomores. With wins over St. Stelphens, West Caldwell and Hibriten, they could be a strong challenger to Alexander Central for the top of the heap in the NW4A by the end of the season.

Now Braves ... it's obvious you haven't been taking my posts about Independence seriously enough. I posted this about them last November.
Independence has traditionally started a little slowly. If they have it going this early in the season, the rest of the conference better look out.

South Caldwell has always had a strong pipeline of talented players, but the 07 class is the mother lode that every coach dreams about. A coach is lucky to get this much pitching in one class once in his career. I've heard the 08 class is loaded also and both classes have played lots of travel ball together on the Cobras and Spartan teams under the watchful eye of their HS coach and middle school coach who happen to be brothers.
After this year's ACHS team, conference titles are gonna be tough to come by for the other teams in the NW4A conference for a while. In fact, don't be too surprised if SC wins a state championship before the 07 class departs.

    How about Hoggard beating Rose?

The first week of the season, I really don't consider any loss an "upset". That the final score was 1-0 shows how good both teams are. This loss by Rose may be the worst thing that could have happened to the other teams in the east.

    Then again......

It will have an effect on the standings unless Hoggard loses an early season matchup also.

This team isn't a surprise team, but this first week they've got the job done. Alexander Central has beat St. Stephens, Davie Co., and #9 Providence. The've started out 3-0, and seem to be well on their way to their highly anticipated successful season.
