I know of 2 or 3 kids who have been invited to play showcase ball this fall. When school started for them this week, they were met by their coach who emphatically expressed his displeasure of the idea. For lack of a better description, the coach hinted at lack of playing time next spring should thay not play for the school fall ball team. These boys both played for their "school" legion team during the summer. Should these kids just forget about any showcase ball, and be team guys, or is the fall the time to branch out a little?

Maybe I'm missing something...but if these 2 kids are good enough to play Showcase, they'll be on the field full time in the Spring. Sounds like a bluff to me.

Showcase in the Fall only makes sense, especially if these 2 are rising Seniors. Now is the time to garner a bit of attention.

Showcase in the fall, school in the spring, Legion in the summer. It's a simple formula.

Dang SouthernNo1.....I'm not sure I would even want to play for a coach with that attitude. Nobody wants to believe this....but if you look to the future and think outside of the box...HS baseball may become history.

For an old school coach like myself, I would hate for that to ever happen...but think about it for a minute. What would prevent a showcase team like Impact, Carolina Cubs, SC Panthers, Diamondbacks, etc.,etc. from playing in the spring. Yes, it would be upsetting...just like Legion teams losing players to showcase. The other thing you must keep in mind...AD's at many HS do not support their baseball program for financial reasons. They would just as soon see baseball dropped from their program. (am I right "O"?)

Braves...did you mean to say "old school coach like myself" or just "old coach"?

I don't understand this Coach's thought process here....you would think he would want his players to play against the best competition in the fall to help better prepare them in the spring.

SoutherNo1...what type Tournaments or League does the school fall ball team play in?

You would hope this Coach would not put his HS team in jeopardy this upcoming spring just because these guys would not play for the team he wanted them to.

    I agree with UK7Dook3...sounds like a bluff to me.:twocents:

    Fall Ball

As a HS coach I can keep all my players together and play in the fall. Or I can keep the ones together that do not have better opportunities and let the ones that do advance themselves by playing with and against better competition. If the coach really cares about the players more than his own desire to "keep his boys together" he will be glad they have the opportunity. This is not an uncommon situation. What baseball situation will benefit him the most. I would not worry about threats or the like at all. Hey I tell you what just send them over to South Granville we will let them play fall showcase , no problem at all!:bananalam

One of the boys is playing football. He likely will not play much, if any fall ball. The other two will be the 1 & 2 pitchers this spring(unless they are penalized). I know one of the parents has a lot of respect for the coach, and would like to discuss it, but the kid says stay out of it. Tough descision to be made here. Dbacks, no tourneys, just whoever they can scrape up to play. It was difficult for them to find enough teams to play last year I believe.
