McDowell blowed out a very good Mitchell team today. Didn't catch the final but McDowell was up by 25 late in the 4th period. This should setup a Freedom-McDowell match up Tuesday night at 7:00.

 

53-26 was the final on that game...I was told we had a pretty solid defensive effort. Mitchell's best player, Lakin Norris was held scoreless in the first half. she finished under double digits.

Don't know the exact scores but Mallard Creek beat North Meck in the consolation bracket...also Tabernacle beat East Burke by 3 points.

7th Place Game: North Meck vs East Burke (12:30)
5th Place Game: Tabernacle vs Mallard Creek (3:30)

 

3rd Place Game: Charlotte Catholic vs Mitchell--4:00
Championship Game: Freedom vs. McDowell-- 7:00

McDowell played great, probably their best defensive effort they have played this year and we are excited to have a Freedom vs McDowell Championship Game. I was dissapointed in Mitchell though- great record as they came in undeafeated, but they were no match at all for McDowell's size.

Might as well play each other 4 or 5 times again this year since it's soon coming to an end.

Thad, it would be erroneus to say its the end of the McDowell-Freedom rivalry. We all know that both schools will schedule each other for non-conference games which will continue the rivalry, only in a new form. If both schools aren't scheduled, then we will see a travesty take place.

 

Thad,I was shocked by the score also. I haven't seen Mitchell play but I have read a little about them in the Asheville paper. They had built them up to possibly challenge for a state title.

 

Mitchell has a talented team and Norris is a good player but they have played a weak schedule and have not played the competition that McDowell has played. They are not state contenders with the likes of East Davidson and Salisbury.

 

Guys Mitchell is not very good by NW4a STANDARDS, wouldn't be in top 5.
I think Tabernacle and Charlotte Catholic and Mallard creek all looked better than they did tonight.

tomorrow will answer alot of Questions- for McDowell this year...prob not as much at stake for FHS since they have 4 good wins already.

 

I agree, it's the final end, but non-conference games with FHS and MHS won't be like the conference ones. I do know we have already talked about scheduling two non-conference games next year. We have to make you guys have at least one trip that's not up I-40... Ha
