    PAC 6

We need to keep an eye on the PAC 6 guys (and gals)... three play-off spots in 4A in the west will come out of this conference. Watch out for: Riverside, Person and Orange.

    4A/3A Mid-Eastern Conference

This "blended" conference is was built because of the distances having to be traveled.

    4-A/3-A Mideastern
Ashley, Hoggard, Jacksonville, Laney, New Hanover, Pender (3A), West Brunswick (3A), White Oak (3A)

Hoggard & Laney are both known to people in the west, particularly Hoggard with their great run last year and #1 ranking in the state for most of the year.

This year, Jacksonville has come out of the gates "hot" and has an 8-0 record going into conference play. Much of their play has been against 2A and even some 1A schools due to the nature of the area, but they seem loaded for bear. Hoggard is hitting the ball hard again (d'oh) this year but has an early season loss. Laney is in the same situation.

This will be another fun one to watch over the next month.

    Mid Southeastern Conference

As usual, it looks like Richmond will be coming out of this conference this season. Hoke seems poised to give them a challenge and you can never count out Scotland County.

    Current standing:

    Hoke County H, 4-2, 2-0
    Scotland Cnty, 4-3, 2-0
    Richmond Cnty, 5-1, 2-0
    Seventy First, 1-6, 0-0
    Douglas Byrd., 1-5, 0-1
    Jack Britt HS, 1-6, 0-1
    Pinecrest H S, 2-4, 0-2
    Westover H.S., 0-5, 0-2

    Two Rivers Conference

Out of the gate, it appears to be South View in a run-away BUT...Pine Forest is sitting on a single conference loss (AND a 6-1 record). E.E. Smith has 2 critical conference losses but remains a strong team. Cape Fear can be dangerous. The rest of the conference looks very young this season.

    South View.., 10-0, 3-0
    Lumberton H.s, 1-6, 1-0
    Purnell Swett, 4-4, 1-1
    E.E. Smith HS, 8-3, 1-2
    Cape Fear H.S, 6-3, 1-2
    Terry Sanford, 3-4, 0-1
    Pine Forest H, 6-1, 0-1

The Two Rivers area results from yesterday: South View remains a force in the area and has to be considered one of the top-5 teams in the state.

    Lumberton 4, Cape Fear 3
    Richmond 9, Douglas Byrd 4
South View 10, Pine Forest 1
    Scotland 14, Seventy First 0
Purnell Swett 7, Terry Sanford 4

    Cary Vs Green Hope

This was the Conference opener for both teams. The conference is small, so there are a lot of non-conference games at the beginning of the season.

Pre-season, Green Hope was one of the few teams that could be considered as a challenge to Fuquay-Varina in the state this season. Cary is in a rebuilding year and did start out very slow (1-4). Cary since has been sailing and doing very well.

    In 12 innings.......

    Cary 4, Green Hope 3

    WP - Joe Cutler
    LP - Judd

    Fuquay-Varina Rolling on

    Fuquay beat Western Harnett 13-1

McLaurin was the winning pitcher, allowing 1 hit in his 5 innings of work. FV's record is now 6-0, and in those 6 games, they have allowed a grand total of 6 hits.

This may be the best pitching staff in the state.

Fuquay plays Garner today (saturday) in a non-conference match-up.

I haven't been able to find the Fuquay-Varina/Garner score from saturday anywhere.

If anyone has heard the score, please post it or send me a private message and I'll post it.

    Thanks.

p.s. Prepster, this is also a reminder of a phone call you said you needed to make, hint, hint

    Scouting reports wanted:

Coming into the last part of the week, there were two eastern NC teams that were still undefeated (along with Fuquay). I don't know many details about these teams or their players.

If anyone does, post them here.
