    BIG EAST CONFERENCE ACTION

    J H Rose 13, Havelock 0

#2 ranked JH Rose slammed another 3 over the fence yesterday in their 3rd game of the week. The Ramparts have been absolutely pounding the ball this season. Their current record is 19-1, 9-0 in conference and they could close out their conference season next week undefeated with a victory over New Bern.

Rose has 52 Homers this rain-shortened season. When most teams will get in 26-27 games a season when the rains are so bad, Rose is still just 3 homers shy of tying the state record of 55, currently held by Apex.

DH Conley 13, Rocky Mount 2

Conley took care of business and Rose helped them out as they edged ahead of Havelock temporarily in the standings. Right now, Conley has moved into the #2 spot in the conference with a berth in the states at stake........

    PAC 6 Key Games

With the middle of the pack huddled together for the last playoff berth in the PAC 6, it was time for some one to make a move.... It looks like that "some one" is going to be Chapel Hill.

Orange and Riverside "own" the conference this season, and the rest of the conference was huddled around 2-4 or 2-5 for the season. But in an upset, Chapel Hill toppled Riverside last night by the score of 4-3. Chapel Hill has moved into sole possession of 3rd at 4-4 with the key win and a victory over Jordan earlier this week.

    Hey "Nuff"

It's really nice having someone who really knows what's happening down east instead of making it up as they go along like I do :xyzwave: :xyzwave: :xyzwave:

    Orange 16 Northern Durham 6

Orange wrapped up the PAC-6 title with a win at Northern last night. The Panthers banged out 16 hits including 3 homeruns. Brett Braxton went 5-5 with a double, homerun, and 5 RBI. His 3-run homer gave him the OHS single season homerun record with 9 (old record 8- Malcolm Thompson 1989) and the single season RBI record with 37 (old record 36- Matt McCay 1996). Braxton has 39 RBI on the season. Josh Austin was 3-4 with a double and a homer, RBI. Daniel Hargrave was 2-4, homerun, 3 RBI. Cole Woodside was 2-3, double, RBI. Chase Cates improved to 5-1 with 4 2/3 innings. Cale Allison and Brett Braxton threw well in relief. Junior shortstop Josh Horton extended his hitting streak to 19 games.

The win coupled with Riverside's loss to Chapel Hill gives Orange its 3rd conference title in the last 4 years.

    Orange is 17-2, 8-0

    Fuquay 10 Apex 4

Fuquay clinches a spot in the playoffs with the victory. McLaurin was great as he only gave up 1 hit and 1 earned run. The Fuquay defense was not clicking tonight as they commited 3 errors in route to 3 runs. However the bats were alive as the first 7 batters all scored making it 7-0, but FV was held in check the rest of the way only scoring 3 runs. FV host Cary Tuesday and then travels to Green Hope on Thur. to wrap up the season.
As it looks now Fuquay will play Richmond Sr. in the first round of the playoffs. I think Rich. has a sour taste in their mouth from last year at the Lee Co. tournament. Fuquay beat Rich. 6-5 in the 2nd round as will hunt blasted a 2 run homer in the 7th to win it.
That looks like a great matchup. One thing I noticed in the brackets is that Fuquay will have home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The only time they will not will be if they make it to the championship game and that site will be neutral. I think they should have to play at least 1 game away. Just my opinion.
    FV 19-1 (10-1)

    NCBBallFan,

Millbrook will be very good next year as well as the next couple of years. They have great young talent, especially pitching, that will carry them into the future. Also, they have a pretty tough schedule year in and year out, that will make them even better.

Garner, of course, loses Hempy and Stanley. Anytime you lose two players like that you will have some big shoes to fill. I don't know a lot about their younger players, I will try to get some info.

If your interested, Fuquay, loses 6 seniors all starters, 5 of which have signed to play college ball the last can and will play somewhere. However, with all this said Fuquay will still be a very good team. The underclassman are very talented as the JV team won the conference last year with a 19-2 record and many of these guys were apart of the Junior Legion state champs in 2001. Of the six seniors now only 1, Honeycutt was on that team so they have more talent on the way. Plus, they get many of the players from the South Wake Storm AAU club. Latley it seems like many players want to play at Fuquay, as they have transferred from other schools.

E.Carteret throttles E.Duplin 15-4 Friday night. Big night for the Mariners at the plate. E.Duplin evidently fell apart defensively -- 8 errors. This puts EC in sole possession of ECC2A lead.

They will go at it again Monday nite in Beaufort (don't forget your bugspray), with ED's number one (Houston) sure to be on the mound. I'd expect Styron (EC's #1) to throw as well (as neither threw Fri).

Just saw that W.Craven pitchers 1-hit Aycock Friday to provide a 6-1 win for the Eagles. This makes WC 5-7 in the league and that much closer to the play-offs (probably as the 4 seed). Still some more ball to play in this last reg. season week.

More news from the east on Monday AM.
