Alex Pearce: Senior, Catcher/Pitcher for Nash Central High School

Youngin: My earliest memory of playing is tee-ball at the original Glover Field in Nashville when I was about 5. I can still remember turning an unassisted triple play there in one game.

Travel ball: I started playing competitive ball when I was 13 for the Stretchlon Stars. My dad coached and it seemed like we won just about every tournament. The years I played with the Stars were the best years of my life. All the guys on the team were the kind of teammates you dreamed of having and I still play against most of those guys today.

Game time: The night before the game I try to play the game out in my head and think about possible situations that might come up, whether it be on the mound or behind the plate. When I get to the field on game day, depending on if I’m pitching or catching, my routines are similar. If I’m pitching, I’ll stretch and throw with the team and about 15 minutes before game time I’ll start throwing in the pen. When I’m done throwing, I’ll just go to the dugout and think about what I have to do to win the game. If I’m catching, it’s basically the same thing, but on the other end of the battery.

Hero: Without a doubt, my grandpa has been my role model ever since I picked up a baseball. I’ve learned so much baseball from him from all the stories he has about watching and playing with and against some really good players. And throughout my playing days I would say he’s been at close to 80% of my games. Stretchlon can vouch for me on that.

Showcase: During my years with the Stars, I met some of the greatest guys I’ve ever known and became friends with guys that I’ll never forget. Every tournament we played in was fun no matter if we won or lost. Also, Stretchlon put us up against the toughest competition around and it definitely made me a better player today. And this past year playing with the Hurricanes was a great experience also, meeting some great players and great guys.

The big game: My most memorable game happened during the 2004 Babe Ruth State Tournament. We lost the first game of the tournament to West Raleigh but fought back to get into the championship. We faced the same West Raleigh team and had to win twice for the championship. I picked off two guys with snap throws, one being the tying run in the top of the 7th and we went on to win both games and advance to the World Series in Wilson.

Future: Like every other guy who loves baseball and has played their whole life, my greatest ambition is playing major league baseball. But if that doesn’t work out, I’d love to get into coaching and teach kids the game I love.

Color: My favorite color would have to be Duke blue. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been a Blue Devil basketball fan.

Gals: At the moment I’m in a relationship with baseball. For my senior season I have to be as focused on baseball as I ever have. But for any ladies, after the season I’m all ears.

Number: I wear number 7 in high school and have been wearing 7 since I was with the Stars, so I stuck with it.

Family: Dad, Mike & Renee, Mom. Sister: Rachel

Stretchy knows: Other than my son, Alex has played more Stars games than anyone else. His grandfather JD Pearce has been a great friend of the Stars. Alex also plays soccer to stay in shape and his sister is a great softball player.

Alex is another young man who plays the game the right way and conducts himself with class on the field. I am sorry that we are not scrimmaging Nash Central this year so I could coach against him one more time. Best of luck to Alex this year and in the future.

    Fine Young Man

Alex is a fine young man. Very humble, polite, and works hard. Obviously, he takes after his mother and not his big headed daddy!

    Alex

I had the pleasure to coach Alex in a tourney this summer. He played CF , Catcher and pitched. Alex is very talented and he can play alot of posistions. He is outstanding behind the plate. And the kid can pitch as well. Alex is a pleasure to be around he is so respectful and polite and a great team mate. He has a bright future at the next level. He will make an outstanding college baseball player.
