I remember that game. Was it that long ago? Ryan was one of the many kids that got to play for and benefit from Freddy's vast baseball knowledge, although he was too hard headed to realize it at the time. Ryan hated showcase baseball and any other kind of baseball where kids had to pay to play. The fact that there was no "up front" money required to play for Freddy was the reason he agreed to play. That alone is enough to tell anybody where Freddy's heart was. The parents would take up donations to try and help Freddy as much as possible but I can tell you that it wasn't nearly enough to finance a baseball team.

Thanks Freddy. Thanks for being there and for being Freddy Suggs. You're one of a kind.

    Freddy the original

You are right. Freddy truly is an original. I had to good fortune to get acquainted with Freddy about 5 years ago. Through first hand experience, I have seen the topics discussed in the interview play out. If the name of the interview was "Getting to know_______", I could have told you that "Blank" was Freddy Suggs. Those of us that know Freddy respect him both as a person and a baseball man. He's not retiring, he's just starting a new chapter in his baseball life.

Freddy took a chance on the Lake Monsters and let us in our first event down at UNCW and we actually went 3-1. Thank-you for that. He is right about answering every email or returning every phone call. I hope to see him in the stands some where now, because I'll certainly thank him face to face for what he did for our team and the advise he's given me.

What a great baseball guy. The kind of guy kids need involved. I hope my son can meet him some day. I can understand his frustrations.

    Freddy Suggs

Q—What is your earliest memories about the game of baseball?

Freddy, your answer to this question may be what is missing for some in baseball. So many many parents today try and coddle their sons and daughters in sports, thinking that " they didn't make the team because we are not in the coaches circle of friends." Parents don't coddle your kids, work with them and make them work to get better. Let them fail, let them achieve, and finally let them be proud when they have accomplish their goal, and be proud of them. Freddy, your answer to this question made me think of the 1st team I made. I only hope my son felt the same.
