Nathan Smith: Senior, Left handed pitcher for Knightdale High School - North Carolina Central University Recruit

The start: I started playing baseball when I was about 5 or 6. My dad helped coach my T-Ball team. After that, he was my coach through Pinto, Mustang, Bronco, & Babe Ruth. We had 3 straight undefeated seasons beginning my last year in Mustang and both years in the Bronco League.

Travel teams: My first travel team was the Raleigh Red Wings. I played for Coach Jim Cobb as a 13 year old. The next year, my dad joined Coach Cobb and together they coached me from age 14 (Raleigh Red Wings); age 15 (Carolina Cardinals); and age 16 (Carolina Cardinals). Last year, I was selected to play for the MVP National Training Center's East Coast Showcase Team. We played a lot of tournaments in the fall at Lenoir Rhyne, Crawdad Stadium, NC Wesleyan, the new complex in Rocky Mount and other high schools in Hickory and Statesville areas. Other than my dad, Coach Cobb has had the most impact on my development as a player. I am looking forward to playing with the MVP West Coast Team in the Triple Crown World Series in Omaha, Nebraska during the College World Series in June.

Getting ready: I always try to have a big meal the night before a game. My dad is always saying that's the fuel you will be playing on. I just try to get a good night's sleep. I always do lots of stretching before a game. If I am the starting pitcher, I get loose by doing long toss. After that, I go to the bullpen about 15 minutes before game time. If I am not pitching, I throw with the team, take infield/outfield, and help pump up my teammates.

Favorites: In addition to baseball, I have been in marching band since my freshman year. I was drum line co-captain this year. I also play the trumpet and baritone.

Big time ball: I pitched a no-hitter my sophomore year against Overhills High School.

    I did it:
I pitched a no-hitter my sophomore year against Overhills High School. I also pitched a no-hitter in Bronco baseball.

I want to be: I will be playing baseball at North Carolina Central University beginning this fall. I will major in Sports Medicine. After my baseball playing days, I plan to be an Athletic Trainer at the college level.

Shade: Knightdale's colors are Black and Vegas Gold and this is OK. But my favorite color is blue.

Girlfriend: As my dad says - I have friends who are girls.

My number: I wore #15 for years but switched to #17 as a junior. I wear #17 for my high school and showcase teams.

Family: My father is Christopher Smith and my mother is Yvonne Smith. I have one sister, Ashleigh, who is a freshman at Enloe. She loves to dance and is a member of The Core at CC & Company Dance Complex.
