    Confession

Sure, Cheeze.....but I'm not cheap!!! And you may not want me inside your house...I may not be honest, either.

Look folks...the timing of this thread is perfect. Personally, I've been to several fields within the last couple of weeks that were in horrible condition. IMO, a couple were unsafe to play on. Everyone on TBR knows of fields like the ones I'm talking about. Its just not right....its disrespectful to the game and to the girls playing on them.

All I'm saying is that it sure would be nice to see more softball complexes like CC, Butler, etc. where the field is well groomed. It makes the games better!

It's not the AD's fault, and it has nothing to do with Title IX. It really doesn't have a whole lot to do with Booster Clubs and $$$$$, or lack thereof. It has to do with parents who won't take a little time out of their day to pick up rocks off the infield that might result in a broken nose. Or, fill in some holes in the outfield that might result in a sprained or broken ankle.

That's it, gang...its about respecting the game. Hats off to the Butlers and CC's of the world who have figured out how to create their own "Field of Dreams." I hope many, many other high schools follow their lead!

Now...is that so bad? Calm down, Guru....relax "Peace Love & Happiness" person....this is supposed to be a fun, right?

To have a nice facility everyone must help. When I took over 3 years ago we were the worst team in the conference and had the worst facility. In three years we've went from the bottom to trying to compete at the top and our facility has improved also. Alexander's is the best, South's and Watauga's are very goodalso. The others are in very good shape as well. Our conference is probably lucky compared to others.

We've raised money every year and I use it on uniforms and field upgrades. The school systems don't have any money to give out, but if you show your interest, get support from parents, the school will help. We installed lights last year, had a lot of parents involved with the booster club and they made it happen. My field still doesn't have the sides fenced in, we have two port-o-johns, and a pepsi trailer for concessions. There is plenty I want to do to make it better. It will just take time..

I do think the post was meant to say, why is the baseball field built in a better place and built nicer than the softball field at the start. I totally agree that they should. The baseball field will get sod and sprinkler system and the softball field gets a chain link fence in the corner somewhere.

If you want a better facility get some parents support and help, get the coach to ask the AD for stuff or money( I ask for everything) and hopefully it will happen. Good luck

Hey DDD you are the one throwing all that, you LAZY people poopie!

I believe you were the one that said, that softball parents were the laziest people, you had ever dealt with and other poopie (*@#&), like that! IMO - softball parents, are just like parents of all those boys sports, perhaps even more involved! I know for a fact that my wallet was opened, way more for the DD, than it ever was for the SS! I agree with the person that posted, what about all those taxes I pay? Should I not expect for that money to go toward something?
If you think that girls sports in general, do not get the short end of everything, then I have some extremely beautiful ocean front property, to give you, in the wonderful state of YOU ARE CRAZY, BLIND, DEAF and possibly should be locked away from the general population! Or there have only been boys in your family for the past 100,000,000 years!
When you watch your local news at night, especially Friday night, do you see girls softball being reported? How about girls basketball? The little league championships are televised for J sake! The girls softball World Series might get a 30 second mention on the news! But hey maybe you are right and the rest of us here on planet earth are wrong! I have been wrong at least a million times before and will be at least a million more times! It is fun to me to bring attention to subjects that I feel people turn a deaf ear to way to often! I can usually agree to disagree, but not on this one!
Peace, Love and Happiness!! Power to the softball players and Parents!!!

as stated before....coaches are getting better, facilities are improving and see this is becoming a higher priority for alot of HS/MS around NC. its just not happening fast enough for some.......patiences, we have come so far in such a short time with NC HS Softball and the rapid growth of FP in general, it's a work in progress.

saddly alot of schools could care less.

cfball is right, the sport is drawing more attention, the nc girls are getting more attention nationwide and sooner or later, the attention paid to softball will equal the attention given to other sports. it is much better than 5 years ago when all we had were two aluminum row seats in each dugout without a roof, fence, etc, etc. we had to do it with parents and the booster club and most will have to follow that route. it was worth the weekends and late nights to make sure the girls would be in a safer situation.

If you don't think Title 9 has the governing law that controls equal access/opportunity/facilities then you have no idea what Title 9 is... but of course it appears as though you aren't alone. We may not even have girl's HS FP if it werent for Title 9... its one of the best pieces of what some might call liberal legislation to have come down the pike. When I was in HS if a girl wasn't a cheerleader then she really had no other extra curricular activity to excel in. It empowers young women. Now girls can belong and perform and excel in a variety of of activities. I agree that parents/supporters/coaches can help with the facilities but even "free" upgrades do not always get the support from the AD's office... its the culture thats in place and the culture understands when the right individuals start chimming in about possible Title 9 violations. Speak the language! The culture will not give give a hoot otherwise... unless as someone said a person of some influence has a DD who plays and even then no one individual can wield enough influence when its being decided whether the last $$$$ in the bank are going for something for girl's softball or something to do with Friday Night Lights.

We have a very fine baseball facility. But what most don't understand is the monies to create it, and the work that was done on it, was through donations of supplies from local businesses, friends of the program, and parents. As well as all the work being done by parents and the kids themselves. Very little has come through the school and booster club towards this facility. Monies raised through fundraisers has contributed greatly also. It did not come about over night. A new project every year with fundraising goals were set and followed through on. Sometimes we have to just dig in and get it done ourselves if we want something bad enough. It seems the baseball coaches do end up with nicer facilities than the softball coaches, but how many softball coaches are out there beating the bushes to get the things from the community to improve their facilities like a lot of the baseball coaches do? Just a thought.
