I am looking to purchase a bat or two for my middle school team. I want a quality bat for the price. Most of my girls have bats but we are in a pretty rural area and I have already had one girl tell me she did not play last year because she did not have her own bat. I want the girls that want to play to try out so "I" am going to purchase a bat. Just wondering if any of you coaches or players can recommend one for girls this age. I don't mind spending the money but I don't want to pay big bucks just for a name. Any and all suggestions appreciated.

A couple of the better bats are Mizuno Frenzy and DeMarini CF4. Those bats cost between $250 and $300. Kind of expensive for a coach-bought, MS, team bat but the ball comes off much better than average.

Whatever bat you choose I would suggest it be a composite bat. I would also make sure it's not too heavy. Don't know the size and strength of your kids but 22-23 ounce bat is probably going to be about right. An ounce or two is a big difference. It's hard to go wrong on the light side; a heavy bat frequently creates a faulty swing--even at the HS level.

Now if you have a kid or two who have the latest, greatest, state-of-the-art bat you might be able to get those bats cheap by offering their parents a hundred or so. That way they get a good discount off the latest, greatest, state-of-the-art bat that's still at the store.

Find a kid with a really good bat who is in a slump and you can get it real cheap. Had a parent tell me one time "every time Jenny gets in a slump I have to buy a new bat."

Yep....DeMarini or the Mizuno. When my DD was getting started looking at bats she tried several, either a borrowed on from a teammate or a demo. Bats are like anything else. How does it feel in your hands, balance, etc.

We were told at that level it's good to use something that is well balanced and not too top end loaded. Then once they learn and grow they can grow into a heavier bat if they prefer, but starting out no. That's what we were told and it worked out very well for us. DeMarini and Mizuno's are pricy no doubt, but worth the money. Carpenters can not do a good job without good tools. Same with a hitter. Got to have a good solid bat. Hope this helps.

    Give it up

I'll bet that there are dads or moms on this board that have some older 2008 or 2007 bats that are collecting dust that would be willing to GIVE them up. If I can find my DD old Z-core I'll GIVE it to you. Just meet me some where. Its used 1 YR. Anyone want to match the offers. Got any old rocket-tech or L/S or Easton's that are just collecting dust. Hey you can't take it with you.

If you are going to purchase.... Use the -10 rule for MS Girls. 32" and 22oz as good a place to start as any.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I was thinking the 32" 22oz was the way to go but wanted some advice. I don't mind purchasing one but if some of you guys have one you want to part with I know WE would be greatly appreciative.
