I would like to publicly thank the people of Cabarrus County, especially the fans of Central Cabarrus HS, for their support over the past 4 seasons. This has been an amazing ride in amassing four straight Conference Titles, four straight Tournament Titles, a state record 83 consecutive wins, two State Championships, and nationally ranked in the top 10 each season. Each and every year, our teams shouldered a hefty responsibility. We not only wanted to be the best and play well, but we represented Cabarrus County. Our players, parents and fans should be especially proud of our girls as they represented the high school and our county in such a positive way. Over the years, that representation has grown. I believe the Central Cabarrus Softball players have taken pride in our rich heritage. We have come to revel in the impact our name holds. Our program draws girls from an early age, yearning to be a member of the team they grew up watching. I believe people could sense the tight web of friendship and dedication we had woven, and they wanted to be a part. We were the blue collar team of hard workers. We were dedicated to the fact that we were going to out-work, be better prepared and out-hustle each team we played. Our players took the field with confidence and a mission. We were determined to prove that hard work does pay off. Not surprisingly, we always played the very toughest schedule in the state and outplayed teams from all over the South. Our secret weapon was the discipline of poise under pressure.
I have been like a proud father of the Central Cabarrus softball program for the past 4 years. Central’s name is continually known as one of the top softball programs in the state. The facts back this up.
Off the field, we hit homeruns in the classroom, too. We have been awarded the NCHSAA Scholar –Athlete team Status every year and were in Nation’s top 10 G.P.A two seasons. Every aspect of our program bears the stamp of excellence.
In the guise of Coach, I have been given the very best opportunity of a lifetime. I have been able to show players how to excel on the ball field. The players gave it all back to me by showing me how special life is and what special gifts we were able to share together. I have also been molded into the coach I am today because of the players I have built my life around. I am grateful for all the support and loyalty of the players, their families, and Softball fans. There is no way to express the love I have had for the Lady Vikings. I have given every ounce I’ve had and have seen it returned to me ten-fold.
As I reflect on my years at CCHS, it’s ironic that a player who never played an inning would stand out above the rest. Erin Hough has had a profound impact on my life, on and off the field. She came from a family the Bible calls the “Salt of the Earth”. She represented her family, her church, and her team everywhere she went. As quickly as she made her own mark in Central history, she left us with a tremendous void. She was an awesome example of the great young ladies I have been fortunate enough to coach. I know she will be an inspiration for the teams to come.
Thank you, CCHS, especially the brotherhood I have experienced with Charlie Blackwelder, Perry Freeze and Bryan Tyson. You have given me the opportunity to work with your daughters, sisters, relatives, and friends. My coaching style has always been extreme. I have never been a “model” Coach, but you have given me the freedom to be me. I had to tighten my belt as the ride got bumpy, but you helped me keep going. I have another opportunity of a lifetime on my horizon. An opportunity and dream come true in coaching my daughters in the near future at my old hometown school, Alexander Central. Godspeed and God Bless, Coach Sherrill

    Surely be Missed

Coach S, 1st Congrats on your new position !! Now, I sincerely can say no one can blame you for wanting to return" home." In life you have to seize the opportunities when they come along, as they may not present themselves later. You will truely be missed as a coach, & a person. The scale has been set high from your presence at Central, just hope the next coach will be able to feel such large shoes. Good luck in the future, & will be quietly cheering for AC. Maybe our paths will cross in the future. Thanks for all you have done for Mo in such a short period of time. You have become a permanent fixture in a part of her life. Thanks again, Todd Peeler

Coach, It has indeed been a pleasure getting to know you the last several years. You are unique in this day and age when people go out of their way to compromise and soften their beliefs to try and be politically correct and try to please everyone. As you have taught me, trying to please everyone results in never achieving what you could if you instead stay strong, stay the course, stand for not being afraid to be the best God has given you the gifts to be. God bless you and your family as you continue on the straight path, the hardest path, to reach your goals. Thank you for letting me share in the success at Central. I will be covering some of the AC games next year as soon as I find out where it is. I'm sure you will be putting them on the map.

JR leaves DEI, Sherrill is leaving CC. Monte, Did you and JR plan this day?

    Roger,
Monte put AC on the map years ago. Check Monte's history.

    Monte,
Welcome back, I just hate that we never got to see a CC vs AC showdown while you we're at CC.

OK, Ill start it, Who will coach CC?

    Without a Doubt

Assistant Coach Charlie Blackwelder would be the obvious choice with the players & parents at Central. Has learned a great deal under Coach S's tutelage.Does a fantastic job with the Cobras !! Could make a pretty long list why it should be him.
