great game at Jamison Stadium tonight

Got there a few minutes late - Grimsley with the ball. Lots of hard hitting, both teams feeling each other out. As the first quarter ended it was 0-0, Tabor with the ball. Wardlow looked really sharp fro Tabor. Had a bullet for an arm and was able to scramble for time and on the first play of the 2nd quarter threw a 33 yard TD pass.

Grimsley followed with a nice drive, moving the ball down to around the ten yard line but coughed up the ball on a fumble. Tabor had to punt, Grimsley turned it back over on an interception, moved the ball down field but turned it back over on a fumble. Grimsley drove back down to around the ten but ran out of time and had to kick a short FG. Halftime Tabor 7 Grimsley 3.

Grimsley takes the 2nd half kick off, starts doing what they do best, run and ball control. Robert Lane #22 the QB for Grimsley scores on an incredible 57 yard run. Lane took the ball up the middle, leaped and was knocked up in the air, but lands on his feet. Tabor quit on the play because they thought he was down. Lane took off and scored easy. Grimsley 10 Tabor 7.

Tabor starts driving and passing, seeming to find the weak spot in the Grimsley D ( pass defense). But Wardlow makes a bad throw and the ball is intercepted by - Robert Lane who also plays free safety for the Whirlies. Grimsley has to punt after three downs and Tabor moves tha ball right back downfield looking like they would drive in for a go ahead score. But wardlow made a bad pitch just as he got creamed by Grimsley's #55 Brandon Pegeuse, and the ball is fumbled and recovered by - you guessed it Robert Lane.

Grimsley again drives downfield, chewing up yards and the clock. Lane who is a converted halfback, starting at QB for the last 5 or 6 games is a tough runner, option QB, but he pulls a few passes out of his hat, completing about a 25 yarder to #28, down to the 20 then throws a beautiful 18 yard TD pass to #83 in the corner of the endzone. Grimsley 17 Tabor 7. About 7 minutes left in the 4th. on the kick off, Robert Lane is held, but still manages to chase Ryan Taylor across the field and make the tackle. The holding penalty pushes Tabor back. Wardlow is basically left to do it all himslef and it wasn't enough. Grimsley holds them on downs and gets a 32 yard FG to go up 20 - 7.

Tabor drives down field as time winds down, getting all the way to the ten where they end up turning it over on downs.

great ball game in the cold.

Robert Lane for Grimsley is amazing. He plays every down the whole game. QB, free safety, kick returner. He runs an option offense and takes most of the carries. He takes lick after lick, and never stops. If you saw the Texas/ Texas A&M game - imagine the A&M qb - you know what they are going to run, the QB is going to run the option and keep it - and even though you know it's coming he runs for big yards anyway.

Grimsley pass rush was mostly neutralized by Wardlow's scrambling ( he made some defenders look silly) but Grimsley was able to contain him for the most part. Grimsley's best D is their ball control offense.

They keep the D off the field, keep them fresh. They did it to everybody they played this year except Dudley. #55 and #8 are two great defensive ends.

And Grimsley has a pretty good drum line for a bunch of white boyz.

Think I'll go cheer them on again next week and meet some of the Crest fans.

    sure Crest can beat them.

They seem to have that lucky playoff horseshoe stuck their as....... :1peekdoor

but I was wrong to bet against Grimsley in my picks this week so I won't do it again.

Grimsley is a very smart team - they have an offensive and defensive line that can control the game. If Crest can pass the ball consistently they can win. If Spikes is as good as they say and he can dog Robert Lane all night they can keep Grimsley out of the end zone. But Mt Tabor couldn't do it tonight so Crest will have to prove they can do it before I believe it.

Hard to believe Grimsley is only a couple of seasons away from 0-10, 1-9 etc.

well what you ought to be doing is looking for directions to Stamey's BBQ (across the street from the Coliseum on Lee St) so we can all eat some bbq before the game.

Grimsley isn't too far away from there

If any Crest guys have ever been to the East/West all star game they play in July - that's Grimsley's stadium. Plenty of seats, a nice long wall and track space for all the Crest horde
