This board has benefited over the years from the contributions of a handful of baseball people who play an important role in player development in our region; whether through the development facilities/programs they run or the camps/clinics they organize. They promote their facilities, camps, etc. here; but, they also share their knowledge on this board through their posts.

In effect, this group provides a public service through the advice and information they leave on this board; so, if they end up benefiting through their occasional mention of their separate offerings, it seems like a fair trade to me.

I'll refer to them as Group A.

Then, there's another group; Group L. Why "L," you might ask? Why not "B?"

The answer's simple: The word "leech" starts with the letter "L."

Like those from Group A, they run regional development facilities/programs, camps, etc. However, we seem to only see their "contributions" when they have something of their own to promote.

Let's face it, where else in this region can you reach such a concentration of scholastic baseball players and their parents? It doesn't take a genius to recognize that a few well-placed threads here can boost a program's, clinic's, or camp's participation.

So, where does this leave me? It leaves me thinking that those in Group L should find another way to contribute to this board's well-being; and they need only look as far as the top of their computer screen.

    It's the "Donate" button.

Whereas those in Group A donate their knowledge through their participation in this board's threads, it only seems fair that those who limit their presence to self-promotion click the "Donate" button and take the opportunity to give back some of the otherwise free benefit they've received.

I suspect it wouldn't take a lot to help make a difference here; and I also suspect that it would represent a small fraction of the incremental benefit they might realize by promoting their events, programs, etc. here.

Now, it may be that some of those who appear to be in Group L have done exactly that; and, if so, they are to be thanked...and welcomed as "dues paying" members of Group A.

However, if Group L members persist in limiting their participation here to self-promotion, my hope would be that the moderators check in on them every so often to nudge them into Group A status.

Outstanding post and thread Prepster. I have "nudged" a few to participate, but to no avail.

I had someone PM me one time asking why I promoted a certain event or clinic and not his. I told him it was simple....they support the board by participating in discussions
