With travel ball being so popular for many years, today's players have played with and against each other since they were 7 or 8. They know each other and have built frienships with many players from opposing high schools. The rivalries are still just as strong, but the hatred is gone.

Sorry, tools................I couldn't help myself. It will be something I will never forget. And I suspect the same is true with all the Titan fans during that time and Coach Pope.

But at least I didn't mention the cowbells.:wasntme:

    I believe there are exceptions

and all it takes is a little common sense to understand when there should be exceptions. Sometimes games get heated , there are some incidents during the game and its just better if the players get on the bus and leave when the game is over. The coaches can meet and shake hands and agree to move on. In a case where there is a long celebration by the team after a walk off hit or hr etc I do not expect the other team to stand there and wait for the other teams celebration to end to shake hands. The other team is hurting and the last thing they want to do is stand there watch the other team celebrate and wait for them to come shake their hand. The coach can walk over to the winning coach and congratulate him and get his team on the bus.

There are exceptions. Personally I could careless about shaking hands after a game as a player. I just spent the last 2 to 3 hours trying to kick your butt. I really dont feel like shaking anyones hand if I lose. And I know you really dont want to shake mine if I just beat you. It it were up to me the coaches would exchange congrats after the game the players would get up the gear and go home. But thats just me.

Poor sportsmanship is not playing the game with respect for the game and not playing the game with respect for your opponent. When the game is over let it be over.

i think there are time when shaking hands should be forgone... this sounds like one of those times. coaches try to teach sportsmanship and whats right and wrong etc. sometimes a tennager is a teenager and tempers etc. get the best of them. heck it happens to us adults on rare occaisions. that is why i responded to the poster who made the statement that the coach should be fired if he can't control his players. the coach with the greatest amount of discipline etc. can have a guy go off on an occaision. this doesn't mean the coach doesn't have control. i think some are very quick to point fingers at "the coach" on anything that goes wrong. the commercial where payton manning is going around yelling at everyone about what they are doing wrong in THEIR job makes me laugh.. i am sure there are some coaches that would like to do that. but hey... it is still the greates job around, and i wouldn't trade it for anything. plate dad, i did not take your comments personally. i understand your thoughts. i agree we as coaches should try to teach sportsmanship etc. my only point was.. that you are dealing with teenagers, that don't always use the best judgement. if a coach is not trying to do any of the above, maybe i would agree with your statement. i just get defensive of coaches... i think they get a raw deal sometimes.....

ps: braves, i think our team still shook hands after that call. i did not however put the umpire in my favorite 5 list ha ha
