Has anyone ever heard of "rolling a bat" ????

    I hope that comment doesn't make it to "Rant and Rave" for Fred to read. When we were growing up we used to take beef bones to wood bats to harden the surface.

    Yes, that is pretty much what I was talking about, I had heard people call it rolling but the term I always used was "boning."

    A similar process is called "Vicing," as in using a vice to accomplish the same objective as rolling it. Apparently, it does break up the manufactured sweet spot and spreads it out. People can do that in their basement or garage, but, wow, you could also make a $300 mistake.

    I know someone who took every new bat he got to a tree in his back yard. Five cuts, turning the bat a little after each cut, into the tree and he swore it had more pop. I guess that's the same idea. We've all seen bats that seem like they hit better after they have a couple dents even. So there ya go parents. Stop buying a brand new bat every 3 months. Buy a cheaper bat and a nice vice.

    Is "rolling a bat" similar to "rolling a hogleg". If so, then yes, there is heat and open flame involved.
