We at Rocky Mount are getting ready to hit the road and go play in the Western part of the State this weekend. We play Thomasville/Davidson tonight and then play a twin bill with Shelby tomorrow. The weather may be questionable but I hope not. If we do get rained out tonight I was wondering how far Cherryville is from Shelby? We are going to take our team to that game if we don't play. We would much rather play though. Look forward to seeing Western North Carolina Legion Baseball.

Not far at all...30 minutes at the longest. I think you'll get your game in, but tomorrow will definitely be no problem.

For those that helped us and anyone who even cares I wanted to give a recap about our trip this weekend.

The trip was awesome and very fun for our players, parents, and coaches. We started our trip at Ledford High School and were welcomed very nicely. Coach Moser and his crowd were awesome. Whatever we needed they got it for us. We beat Thomasville/Davidson 12-2. We had 12 runs on 14 hits and 4 HR's. We threw 8 innings of 4 hit baseball. After the game they fed us hotdogs, chips, and a drink and man did that hit the spot.

Then next day is most definetly what we had all been waiting for. We showed up to the ball park and met Coach Greyson from Shelby (great guy). They had the field set up for us to hit. It took us awhile to get started as our players ventured around this unreal park. After BP our players were invited up to the concession stand for a drink and some time to cool off under the stadium cover and the big a$$ fans (this was the actual name of them) that were underneath the roof. We then hit the field for battle. Shelby ripped eveything we threw. We actually had a 5-3 lead in the 5th but couldn't hold it. We ended up losing 8-6. Between games we went back to the concession stand and got a PBJ and another drink once again courtesy of Coach Greyson's wife. After cooling down again, we went back for game 2. Shelby jumped out to a 5-1 lead and we mounted a valiant comeback but it just wasn't enough. We lost 5-4. This is when it got real good. After waxing our rear ends twice. It was time to eat again. This time it was BBQ, slaw, chips, and bread. The BBQ and slaw were way different from the East but it was awesome!!!

We were treated first class all weekend and loved our time out West. We hope to go back next year!! Thanks to everybody who helped set this up and thanks to Thomasville/Davidson and Shelby for first class hospitality!!

Assume it was red slaw. Did you hear about any of the upgrades they plan to make to the ballpark? Heard there will be improvements but not sure what they are.

Interesting when we talk about public school athletic facilities at Raleigh high schools - I tell them they need to go see what Shelby has.

    Red slaw is exactly right.

As far as improvements they are extending the dugouts about 25 ft. and they will be underground. They are going to finish covering the 2 sections of seating that are uncovered. The last thing will be a new 9 inning scoreboard. There may be some more things but that was the main thing that we heard about. The project will cost about 1 million.

Britt, Shelby knows how to throw a baseball party, don't they?

Next year you have to schedule Rowan County (contact them early because they book fast) and bring your boys to Newman Park for a summer night they will always remember.
