    I agree with chaha as this is what I was sayin. The ASA and NCAA rule book differ on this situation. But I don't think most umpires realize there is a difference....especially most TB umpires. The NCAA guys should be up on the difference since many call college in the spring and ASA showcase in the summer

    Thanks for that info. Would be nice to see the wording for NFHS. Your post indicates that the batter/runner cant change the liability situation AFTER making a decision to return to 1st base. This is exactly why I wasnt following the logic of the earlier posts. I just wasnt following the "have the cake and eat it too" logic. Now to get the HS information on this. I

    I looked at the NFHS (High School) rulebook last night. The wording looked identical to the ASA wording.

    So then, in HS, you can't break for 2nd base after the ball is in the circle(with no defensive action) if you are walking back to 1B.
