A couple quick questions for you:

1). What goes into making your "follow list"?

2). When will you be doing your '04 list for next season?

3). Not everyone attends a showcase, how do you evaluate players that don't attend one?

Keep up the good work .... as if you're not busy enough, thought I would add to your "task list" !!!!!

Thanks for asking those questions, NCBBALLFAN, to Andy Partin @ Impact Baseball. I would like to know the answers to those questions as well.

Let me see if I can help you and others with these.

1). What goes into making your "follow list"?

The player needs to manifest the ability to progress and play college or professional baseball after high school. The players listed are prospects we feel that have the up-most aptitude and projectablity.

Bottom line, right now the players listed are guys that we feel are the "top" guys in each state. But remember, just like every list/ranking out there, guys get missed, etc. Now, there will be more players added to our Follow Lists throughout the year.

The neat thing about Impact Baseball compared to many other "scouting venues" or prospect lists, we see the players "first hand" and I think that is important. We don't list/rank guys on what people say. Personally, I try to do my best to get out and see players first hand as much as I can, although we have several contacts that are relied on for help.

2). When will you be doing your '04 list for next season?

The Follow Lists have been posted. The VA 04's list was updated today.

3). Not everyone attends a showcase, how do you evaluate players that don't attend one?

Of course the best way to make sure you are seen by Impact Baseball is to attend an Impact Baseball Showcase.

My answer to the original question is: I evaluate players the same way if I'm at a showcase, a high school game or a tryout of some sort. There are certain things you look for in a player. ie - tools, athletic ability, etc. if this is what you are asking?

Myself, I see a lot of players first hand by attending high school games in the spring or American Legion games, tournaments, etc in the summer. Most guys who are serious about baseball play in the fall and there are a couple of quality fall leagues and programs out there that I watch/follow.

Now, to change the subject, I want to praise the efforts of "TBR" for providing a quality source of information to those who follow high school baseball in this state. I have enjoyed following "TBR" this spring and summer.

I think Jonathan Greene is a solid player. He's built strong and he can hit, and hit with a little juice. I think he can throw too.

Matt Payne is very good - one of the better righties in North Carolina. The State Games was the first time I had seen him. I liked him a lot. He pitched very relaxed in the middle 80's and he showed a nice "12-6" curveball.

Where would you rank Chris Taylor among NC catchers?

ImpactBB, do you ever attend other organized tournaments besides showcase (i.e. AAU, USSSA, AABC), or do you just stick with scouting players in showcase and legion games/tournaments?

Chris Taylor is one of the top catchers in North Carolina's 04' class. Right now he is probably one of the top six or seven I have seen so far.

Good question: I have attended several AAU, USSSA, and similar tournaments. They are only as good as the teams/players in them, just like showcases.

When I lived in Greenville I was lucky enough to have Kinston only 30 minutes away where they play lots of AAU tourneys.
