Big Ugly II - looks like you hit the nail on the head. According to the paper, Patrick must have had a great game against Hickory yesterday.

Patrick did have an outstanding game yesterday. Was clocked above 90 many times and was clocked as high as 93. He also led the way hitting for the Indians with a 3 run homerun in the top of the 5th. Cooled off the Tornado by only giving up 3 hits in 4 2/3 innings.

In regards to the 3A teams my take is:

Hickory
Definitely a tallented team with good pitching (Gibbs, Baker, Smith & Austin Johnson- a sophmore who thru a complete game against East Burke last Friday), probably better defense than last year (Patrick Shelton-gun for an arm, is doing a great job at SS) and top to bottom better hitting (yes they miss Wilson Boyd and Issac Harrow) lead by Boliek, Smith, Hilton (2 dingers in 3 games) and Baker. All that is good but the best thing about this team is they like each other. The comradary is outstanding! The other intangible in Hickory's favor is David Craft.

F.T. Foard
Any time Trent Rothlin, Ben Lilly or Andrew Wyatt is on the mound the Tigers will be in the game. You throw in Aaron King and they will be tough week in and week out. Brian Dice is an outstanding catcher with one of the quickest releases I have ever seen. Dice, Rothlin and Lilly (remember when he hit for the cycle in Legion last summer) are dangerous at the plate. Anyway Foard won't have to score many runs with their pitching staff.

St. Stephens
Any time Patrick Johnson is on the mound Saint will be a team to watch. If Tripp Tartleson can come on as a second starter they will have pitching. At the plate John Daly, Brian Litwin and Johnson can provide some punch. Saint will be young but Darrell Reese is one of the best coaches around and will get the most out of his tallent.

That being said the tallent is not limited to the 3A schools. Bandys has started 3-0 and Doug McCree is an outstanding coach with a great record. Word is though their #1 pitcher, who has signed with UNC-G has arm problems and may not be able to pitch for a while. Hibriten is 2-1 and was only down 5-3 in the 5th inning to South Caldwell before one of their outfielders was hurt running into CF and was taken off the field on a stretcher. West Caldwell lost a lot to gradulation but they always seem to be there in the end. That leaves Maiden, Bunker Hill and Newton-Conover who may struggle at times.

I guess if I was handicapping the horse race I would go with Hickory and Foard but I do not believe anyone will run the table and it's gonna be a fun year in the Catawba Valley!

What is this? "Throw in Aaron King to the Mix?" He is one of FTF's PITCHERS, and the comment about "Wyatt" where did that come from? Gees give the kid some credit for his ability etc. Much better than given credit for.

Gees "throw in Aaron King?" he is one of FTF pitchers and one of the better ones in the cvac. And to NOT be included as one of FTF"s Pitching staff is ludicrous! Sophmore "Wyatt" better than king? I think Not! :banginghe

give the kid credit for jobs well done!

Febreeze- he was giving a summary of the conference. It's just his opinion. I didn't take it as an insult to anybody. Since you seem to know King, many of us don't. So instead of discrediting (Wyatt) why don't you post something about Aaron King so all of us will know about him. We really do like to read about talented players, especially one's that are unrecognized outside of one's area.

Keep in mind that we have posters from all over the state. So by posting information about a player helps getting them recognized

this kid has got it! not discrediting anyone at all - just misinformed my bad :banginghe King has no hitted kings mtn last year and shook the whole conference up! since then has had great games with 17 strike outs in a total of 9 innings given the chance. A force to reckon with. NOT IN ANY WAY TRYING TO DISCREDIT ANYONE! Just need to come watch, and just discouraged to see the fact of his name being left to a relief pose so to speak.

No doubt, the Tigers are counting on Aaron King having some big games on the mound. He's already had two "lights out" starts.

It's a long season, and it's early. If Foard is to remain on top, they'll need contributions from him and the rest of the TEAM.
