Chiles taps N.C.'s Dick Steed as new baseball coach

Chiles High School has chosen Dick Steed from North Carolina as its new baseball coach, Chiles athletic director Paul Lambert has just confirmed.

After 10 years and a trip to the Class 5A state championship game this spring, Greg Jones stepped down as the Timberwolves’ head coach this summer.

“Of course it was one of the toughest decisions we’ve made as far as choosing a coach, but in the end we were extremely confident that he’s the right guy to lead our program where we are right now,” Lambert said. “He’s just got so much experience.”

Most recently Steed was head coach of the Hickory Ridge High baseball team in Harrisburg, N.C.

I wish I knew him to give some feedback, but we have members that have son's on the team. I know the school's team was very successful---it's possible that he was a member here

    Im Shocked

I am very shocked to hear about Coach Steed leaving. He was a very respectable coach and I wish him the best of luck in Florida.

Coach Steed came to Hickory Ridge two years ago from Hoover High in alabama. He had coached there and came to a new school and started our program. He is a very quality person and excellent baseball man. The three most disappointed people in my house are me, my wife and my ten year old son. Josh just loves him. My oldest daughter was real upset when we read this.

As far as coaching he belives in discipline. He played at Florida State. Our facility was brand new and was lacking due to the way North Carolina funds schools and programs. He spent countless hours working on our field.

Your kids will be lucky to play for Dick. Our program will be fine under Coach Knapp who was his JV coach. He was able to spend his first two years learring under him.
