I thought that I would share this with ya'll to let everyone know what we are having to deal with in Ohio. This article followed a week long series of sensationalism journalism that looked into youth sports.

Getting public education involved in travel ball is the worst idea I have ever heard...

Don't "kid" yourself.. this is all about control and power. HS sports are losing their relevance to a certain degree. Are there bad apples of course but all that needs to be done is allow their names to be mentioned here. Please dont allow our country's greatest and most controlling beaurocracy into travel ball.

Government needs to stop trying to save me. I can take care of myself!

    +1

Technically OHSAA is not a government organization. However, it would take goverenment power to force this change and goverenment funding to provide the resources, so I am in agreement with the previous posters.

After reading SofballPhreak's link, I could see the gov't getting involved with youth sports. If they can regulate and create income, they will do it. And how they will justify it is by cleaning up abuse to the system. Rogue coaches pushing kids too hard and the "demands" of year round play, protecting kids from injuries, but what will really get them is the lack of certified coaches. And I'm not talking about paying a $25 fee and a certificate and being called a coach. Coaches will need more that a DD who pitches or catches. Oh.....and I want to see what the gov't says when a TB coaches tells them they didn't take a kid because she put academics first. I bet that will go over real well.

Imagine, mandated coaching clinics on how to treat kids, and actually have to coach them. It will be like Rec Ball. You will draft kids and have to coach them, and be certified to do it. And certification costs money, and you will pay to get that certification and take a test.

If you guys give them a reason, they will exploit it. I bet they'll find ways to make money off youth sports you never dreamed of. It's scary....

However, I would have no problem with an organization like the ASA or equivalent doing this. A private sanctioning body can pull this off and it would really help the sport. (a member controlled sanctioning body, that is)
