Ryan Butler Started for AK Then Lover Came In

Hey fellas - not that it matters much, but Alex Baker did not pitch at all last night - Ryan Butler started then Lover came in.

My comments about how strong the NPC 3A conference is, has nothing to do with the Marvin Ridge baseball program. IMO Mark Mennitt is one of THE BEST HS baseball coaches in the area, period. I told a Carson dad before the game that they had their work cut out for them, I also posted on another thread that the MR/Carson game IMO was the game of the 1st round, because both of those clubs were good enough to go deep into the playoffs, look it up I said it.

In the playoffs, its all about whos hot that one night, who gets a timely break, coaching and fundamentals. I can't explain why the Rowan County schools all seem to have good baseball, except its just a baseball county plain and simple. You have baseball rec leagues everywhere in that county, in the East Rowan school district alone they have a youth league that usually has about 30 teams. Couple that with the best players in the county being exposed to playing for one of THE BEST college coaches in the state (Jim Gantt, Catawba College) during the summer for the American Legion program,,,, and yes I'd say Rowan boys are taught the game right.

Just for clarification, because I respect the hell out of what Coach Mennitt has done at MR.

 

Someone commented about a South Rowan player who hit a homerun out to CF at Weddington which was a very long shot,,,,,,, I don't know who that was, I also saw where someone else was whining something about scouting,,, but surely to God the Weddington coaches knew NOT to pitch to SR's Maverick Miles. If it was another kid who hit the HR, congrats to them, but Miles is being rumored to very possibly being drafted and getting a nice paycheck this June right out of HS. Best hitter in the area.

TJ - I didn't read any disrespect in your comments. Coach Mennitt is well respected by everyone in the community.

 

And damn, I just gave someone a scouting tip.

No worries....I did't take it as a knock to Mennitt but a compliment to the NPIED teams. We were talking after the game yesterday (after the 3rd year in a row getting knocked out by a NPIED team ) and just were saying how much good baseball is played in that conference and in that area in general. Our conference this year was down somewhat and if it weren't for Weddington coming back into the conference it would have not really been competitive at all. We scheduled tough and had great wins against great competition early including going 3-0 in the East Meck tourney. I think we just kind of stalled out when we went into conference play and found it tough to get up for a lot of games outside of Weddington. I would love it if we would schedule more Rowan area teams as non-conference.....I think it would be good experience for everyone. I would love to see some of them in the East Meck tourney next year perhaps.
