Well Viking... If they have already made the team in the Fall, then that school is in direct violation of State policy and guidelines. I am sure they are glad you pointed that out so that everyone knows (I type sarcastically).

Now, I am not saying that coaches don't, in their minds, get a great idea of who will make the team in fall workouts, but if the coach actually already told the players they made varsity, I think that is wrong. That hurts those of us that follow the rules, yet continually get stung by teams that "bend" the rules. Guess which of us gets the heat during the season?

Vik, I hope you know I am not meaning any harm by this reply. I appreciate what you have said and respect it. I just had to comment on what some coaches see as acceptable practices (bending and manipulating rules). I may have the totally wrong take on this and if I do, I do apologize.

Hope you have a Happy New Year and that the door to opportunity is like the one at a grocery store... it opens for you when you get near..

Very interesting, what school would this be that doesn't have to follow the rules?

    It's a new year...

Let's not go down the same path that so many chose to travel last year.....

How about a 2010 TBR softball board new years resolution....

    Play Nice....

    Here's another idea.....

If a freshman makes an impact in high school....
let's read about it in the box scores...

or better yet, on her report card

    I concur with Charlie

Let's just wait for the girls to performance to determine their impact. This thread reminds me of those stupid "preseason all-conference teams" that some, but not all, collegiate conferences have.

    Every girl listed will start?

Hmmm . . . . seems like a bold claim given the fact that none of these girls has yet to attend an official practice. Have all these girls been assured starting jobs by their respective HS coaches and do you have first-hand knowledge of those promises?

I just think it's tricky business making such claims. What if Betty Lou doesn't start (maybe a new kid arrives in school or a veteran gets better or Betty Lou isn't as gifted as her dad her thought?) after that job has already been guaranteed on TBR?

My daughter's experience was a perfect example. Was she good enough to play on varsity as freshman? Those on the board who know her can answer that question yet the varsity already had a future D1 star in the circle. Wisely, the coach put her JV where she got every inning and then pulled her to varsity for the state playoffs. Point is, simply being good enough to be on varsity is not guarantee that a kid will or needs to be. HS ball is just supplemental for the really good players, anyway.
