    Force The Pitcher ______

One thing that we teach our kids if you are facing a drop ball pitcher , a good hitter will strategize against her. One way is to move in the back of the box causing the catcher to have to move back ,and further from the ball. Naturally the pitcher will subconsciously move the ball up into the strike zone to reach her catcher, but the hitter must be truly disciplined not swinging at bad pitches. The pitcher has the advantage. Rise, drop, screw, changeup, hbp, etc. A good pitcher doesn't have to strike a batter out, they can make a batter hit it to her defense. And, if none of that works, pitch around her.

You know I respect the heck out of you guys. You have forgotten more than I know, but if you have a line up of well trained hitters who recognize those pitches and know what to do with them, you can not pitch around the whole team. I've seen good hitting tear a good pitcher up. This debate will rage on no doubt, but I'll take my chance with a good hitter. Always hear "that game was a pitchers duel", except for the one pitcher who made that fatal mistake.

The original question referenced "great" pitching and "great" hitting.

I would love for it to be the hitter but I think it's the pitcher who has the advantage. It's much more likely to have one great pitcher in a game than it is multiple great hitters in a game.

A great pitcher just has too many variations she can use. Of course, it happens that the batter wins sometimes; but in the long run, the pitcher has the advantage.

Yeah, but a hitter can fail 70% of the time and still make the Hall of Fame! Love you man! :) Still, you might be right but I still love the hitter. Peace Bro....definitely will see you out there :). All in good fun.

    Katie Cochran ASU

You're talking about Katie Cochran from Arizona State. She's one of the five best hitters in the world. Never a reason to pitch to her. Which proves the point that the pitchers have the advantage. Against almost any other a hitter a PAC-10 level pitcher has a huge advantage. Thus walk Cochran and take your chances with the next girl.

Best example I can cite is Angela Tincher's no-hitter against the U.S. Olympic team. Best hitters in the world and AT completely shut them down.

Fast pitch is a pitcher's game, plain and simple. At some level everyone who understands the game knows this but doesn't admit it for fear of minimizing the other eight players.

I agree with you. Your DD, of course, is known to be one of those great pitchers.

Who do you rank as the five best hitters in the world?

Just to keep it on subject, any clips of how they would hit a low pitch?

    Five best hitters

Bustos: in a league by herself. No one else is close from a power perspective.

Cochran: softball's version of Ted Williams.

Mendoza: Great eye, think Stan Musial.

Whoever the girl is who hits leadoff for the Japanese Olympic team . . . best slapper in the world.

After those four there's a bunch. Just for the fun of it let's say Nikki Prier as my DD almost never got her out.
