Been saying that for a couple of years now...move the rubber back, move the bases back, deeper fence so there are more extra base hits. And about that male audience...ask any current HS or college baseball player to watch softball, and he is bored to death, only there to see the girls...not enough action on the field. And those are the ones who will be that 25-40 male audience in the near future.

Not enough action on the field ????

You must be watching a different game than I do. If you want boreing move the bases back and move the fence back and then softball can be as slow paced as baseball.

    Hello again

Welcome back to our discussion LDFRDGUY, I knew I could shake you up with a comment like that. Never said I agreed with the baseball boys, just quoting them. Coming from baseball, it's just a different game, even though it looks similar to them. But I still think we could pick up some more action without slowing down the pace...and that's all I'll say, we've had this discussion before and no need to rehash it!

This spring take someone who has not been to a ball game in a while to a good HS baseball game then later to a good HS softball game and ask them which was the most exciting. Most people have no idea what fastpitch has become .

Ueno has thrown NO RISE BALLS

There's a lesson here. The rise ball is the most overated pitch in softball. Both of Japan's runs have come risers from Cat.

    Team USA gets Silver Medal

Just found out from my DD ........... Japan won 3-1 to get the gold medal. Cat was pulled and Monica finished the game. Would have loved for Team USA to go out with the gold this year since the IOC has removed softball from the Olympics, but was not meant to be. I would much rather watch softball than kayaking, ping pong or men's synchronized diving. To each his or her own.

FASTPITCH SOFTBALL ROCKS no matter what the IOC thinks.

    IMO, Not True...

"DD4" There's a lesson here. The rise ball is the most overated pitch in softball. Both of Japan's runs have come risers from Cat.

I have to disagree with that statement, The rise ball is a great pitch, when exacuted properly, = strike! Yes, one must be careful and throw it correctly, but that is true with all of the movement pitches! My daughter saw a ton of success with the rise ball!! JMO
