Something else has to be put in place because 60 yard sprint does not mean anything in baseball. Run a 30 yard sprint or make them run to second.

I venture to say the 60 yard dash will go the way of the dinosaur. Baseball likes new toys and the new testing pattern seems to revolve around SPARQ testing.

So get ready to spend those extra bucks you saved after summer ball to send your son to a school to better enhance his SPARQ testing scores...:189:

60 yards = 180 feet. From home to first, 90 feet. From First to second, another 90 feet. If you were to add those two you get 180 feet. So if you were to combine those numbers, thats the distance from home to second, which is equivalent to a 60 yard dash.

Agree. Run it in uniform and cleats. I have seen times ran in shorts. Football players running the 40 in shorts and track shoes. Run it as if you were in a game. I would take a player that can run the bases smart before a track star. And if you cannot bunt.

The 60 is home to second

180' equals the distance from home to second base. Home to first times are only taken during games not at pro style tryouts. The home to first time is from contact to touching of firstbase. I have seen kids that could flat our run the 60 but couldnt run the bases at all. Just like we all have seen kids that can throw hard and cant pitch or mash in bp but can not hit in a game. In the end the ability to play the game will be the judge of a kids ability. I have never gotten caught up in the numbers game. Can you play the game? In the end that is all that is going really matter.

SouthernNo1, I had a typo and meant to put second instead of first at the end. Thanks for catching that.

Listen, I can tell this story now. My son was a pretty fast runner. His legs were about 6'4" long. Well, his sophomore and junior year he was on a team with Mike Cavasinni and Greg MiClat. Now if you know anything about those guys, you would know they were one of the fastest players in the state. Those guys could routinely clock a 6.6 or less in the 60 yard time...but my son always beat their time. They would get upset and mad, but my son would tell them it was his long legs.

The real reason he always beat their times was because a track coach taught him how to pick up 2.5- 4 seconds based solely on 3 things

    - Your hand placement when you started
    - How to breathe when your running
    - and cheat...jump the gun (anticipate) because they rarely had you re-do it.

To this day those guys never knew how he always beat them. And when they always challenged him on a one-one race, he would tell them "I want to, but coach won't let pitchers run with you guys"

He's still the fastest on his college team to....I hope they don't read the board.
